The Explosion Trap[1] is an obstacle that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a spot on the ground where flames and/or lava burst out.

Description[]

The Explosion Traps are craters and/or holes found in the ground of the Stages. In gameplay, they spew out tall pillars of fire and/or magma in intervals which will damage the player upon physical contact.

Game appearances[]

Sonic Adventure[]

Explosive Trap (SA)

An Explosive Trap, from Sonic Adventure.

In Sonic Adventure, and its enhanced port Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut, the Explosion Traps appear exclusively in all of Red Mountain's sections. In the games, they appear as piles of unstable rocks on the ground and lava that has hot air stemming from them. Once the player gets near them, they will continuously spit out large igneous rocks that will harm the playable character upon contact in the air.

Sonic the Hedgehog (2006)[]

Explosive Trap Sonic 2006

Sonic Generations[]

In the console/PC version of Sonic Generations, Explosive Traps appear in both Acts of Crisis City. In this game, their crater is much smaller and the height of the their flame pillars switches between high and short in intervals. However, their flames can be rendered harmless with the Flame Shield or Super Sonic.
