Exception is the true final stage of Sonic Rush. In this stage, Sonic and Blaze use the powers of the Chaos and Sol Emeralds to become Super Sonic and Burning Blaze to fight Doctor Eggman and Eggman Nega.

For the first portion of the fight for both Sonic and Blaze invloves dodging the lasers and rocks to reach Eggman (or Eggman Nega as Blaze).

First you play as Sonic as he fights Sonic. Sonic can dash with either the A or B buttons. When Sonic reaches Eggman, he'll fire two small satellites which will discharge four lasers which can only be avoided by dashing at the right time. To harm him, you have to fire the satellites back at the cockpit. After getting hit, he'll fire some energy beams which can also be reflected back at him, sometimes Eggman will also go into the background and fire rockets which Sonic has to dodge or lose 5-7 rings if hit. After 3 hits, Eggman will switch with Eggman Nega to fight Blaze.

As Blaze, she can dash like Sonic but only with the B button, and she can also generate fireballs with the A button. When reaching Nega, you still need to avoid the rocks and lasers but Nega fires the lasers mush more quickly and when you reach him, you need to fire fireballs to hurt him. Sometimes, Nega will hold out a claw and fire it to hit Blaze, if the player manages to dodge it, it will leave him vunerable to attack, if you fail, Nega will grab Blaze and hit her with the other claw causing her to lose rings. Other times, he'll go into the background and cause some kind of rift which will not only pull Blaze in but also any rings nearby. To dodge the rift, you must dash numerous times either until the rift disappears or until Blaze is caught. After getting hit three times, Nega will switch places with Eggman again. Just keep repeating the process and you'll beat the game.
