Eternal Highway (エターナルハイウェイ[1] Etānaru Haiuwei?) is a location that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a region generated within Cyber Space, largely seen during the events of Sonic Frontiers. Sonic visits Eternal Highway several times through Cyber Space Portals, and it is where Doctor Eggman is trapped while on the Starfall Islands.

Description[]

Eternal Highway is a vast connection of roads and highways floating in a digital space. The roads stretch far and wide, connecting and weaving in ways that make no logical sense: stationary cars can be found on the roads or floating within the space, and street lamps and direction signs are abundant. As one of the four stage themes for Cyber Space stages, Eternal Highway shares much of the same aesthetics as the other three, but with an urban flair to it, similar to past stages like Speed Highway, City Escape, and Skyscraper Scamper.

Eternal Highway is one of the four basic stage aesthetics for Cyber Space stages in Sonic Frontiers. Stages with this aesthetic are only found on Kronos Island and Ouranos Island (in both the original ending and in The Final Horizon), making it one of the least encountered themes in the game, just ahead of Sky Sanctuary.

Eternal Highway is also where Doctor Eggman finds himself trapped in during the events of the game. While stuck in Cyber Space, he finds himself unable to leave, relying on Sage and her knowledge of Cyber Space to free him. It is here where the two bond and begin to develop the father-daughter relationship that later defines them.

Trivia[]

  • Eternal Highway is the only entirely original Cyber Space theme, as the other three are based on past stages.
