The Enchantment Shrine[1] is an object that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a shrine for adding bonuses to Chao.

Description[]

The Enchantment Shrines are shrines made of either dark blue or beige stone. Their center areas consist of a square-shaped platform with a circle-shaped platform on top of it and a small staircase in each corner that lead up along a small spire. Furthermore, the circular platform in the shrine has a purple-glowing and intricate circle symbol on it, which has six smaller circles on its outer rim. Heading into the central area of the shrine is a path laid with stone tiles that is gradually raised like steps and has staircases on each step. In addition, the path into the shrine may several crooked stone columns along it, as well as spires with glowing purple lines on them at the entry point. Some shrines also have purple waterfalls around their central area, creating a purple puddle around the Enchantment Shrine.

In Sonic Speed Simulator, the Enchantment Shrines were originally announced in Chemical Plant as a work-in-progress. As of v1.8.1, they were added to the game as a part of the version 1.8.1 update, but were later removed as part of the 2.0 update, along with their enchantments.[1] They could be found near the starting point of every world in the game, except for Green Hill, where it was located next to the Lost Valley Obby portal.

In gameplay, the Enchantment Shrines were used to grant special buffs to the player's Chao. When entering an Enchantment Shrine, the player could activate it, thereby giving the player the option to bestow a buff to a Chao they currently had in their storage. The Enchantment Shrines could bestow one of seven different buffs to a Chao at the cost of 1,000,000 Rings by enchanting them. However, each Chao could only be given one buff; if the player attempted to enchant a Chao that already had a buff, then it would be swapped out with another buff. Furthermore, each buff had a different tier that determined how great its benefit was, the higher the tier, the greater the benefit. Also, the different buffs and their tiers were chosen at random when the player enchants a Chao, with each buff having a certain chance of being chosen when a Chao was enchanted. The buffs and their tiers are as follows:

Icon Name Description Rarity Tier
I II III IV V
XP Increased experience pickups 21.9% +10 +30 +50 +70 +80
Speed Increased speed 21% +5 +10 +15 +20 +25

Magnet Increased magnet effect 9.5% +3 +5 +7 +9 +10
Event Increased event currency pickup* 4.8%** +1 +2 +3 +4 +5
*Event Currency only applies to Event items that can be attracted by Magnets. Items not attracted by Magnets are unaffected by Event as well.
**The Event Enchantment was temporarily made unavailable to be obtained at Enchantment Shrines starting with the v1.10 update. Any Chaos previously enchanted with Event retained their enchantment, but were unable to be enchanted with Event if re-enchanted. The v1.16 update reintroduced the Enchantment.
