Emerald Shards, also called Emerald Crystals or Chaos Shards, are objects that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics.

Description[]

Appearance[]

The Emerald Shards resemble Chaos Emeralds in composition, texture, and color. However, they look more broken due to their nature.

Features and traits[]

Emerald Shards have the same trait as regular Chaos Emeralds, being able to empower beings and machines.

History[]

After releasing Chaos from the Ancient Onyx, Eggman needed more energy for Chaos achieve its Perfect Chaos form. As such, he seeked out the Chaos Emerald on Angel Island, shattering it to pieces so as to “feed” it to Chaos and power it up. Back at his base, however, Eggman realized that some of the Emerald Shards he had retrieved were just regular green rocks that were part of the Chaos Chamber. As such, he told his E-Series robots to head out to search for any Emerald Shards they could find.[1][2]
