Eli-Za[1] is a character that is mentioned in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. She is the mother of Remington and former wife of Grandmaster Kragok.
History[]
Born in the Twilight Cage during the Dark Legion's exile in that zone, she accepted Kragok's proposals for a civil union, aware of the risks involved if she were to refuse. She gave birth to Remington, and was subsequently introduced into the inner circle of Dark Legion leadership. It was here that she met her sister-in-law, Lien-Da, whom she discovered was just as ruthless as her husband. Realizing her son's life would always be at risk around Lien-Da, since Remington's existence meant she would never be promoted to Grandmaster, Eli-Za decided to seek a new future for herself and her son. She used stolen Marauder technology to transport herself and Remington to the prime zone, while appearing to have been vaporized.
Intercepted by the Brotherhood of Guardians, Eli-Za pleaded her case. In exchange for information on the Dark Legion, she was permitted to integrate into Echidnaopolis society. However, both her and Remington had their Memory Neutralizing Chips activated, and they awoke in the city as "poor amnesiacs". Nevertheless, the two managed to integrate into society, with Remington becoming the Constable of the Echidna Security Team.

Eli-Za is described as being caring and determined. Further evidence proves this when she is willing to leave her husband to make sure that her son is safe, so that he can grow up to live a successful and peaceful life.

- It is unknown what became of Eli-Za after she and Remington became full citizens of Echidnaopolis. Whether she remains alive, died of natural causes, or was killed at some point in time remains a mystery. Presuming that she was alive at the time Knuckles discovered Echidnaopolis, it could also be presumed that she eventually made it to Albion, along with Remington and his girlfriend, Komi-Ko, but could've been imprisoned into another zone by Thrash the Tasmanian Devil, along with the other echidnas.
- Eli-Za is possibly named after the fan "Ellie-Za", who was a prominent figure within the online Archie Sonic fanbase throughout the early 2000s. She was known for owning "Echidna Enclave", a fansite dedicated to content relating to the Archie Knuckles the Echidna comic series. It should be noted that Eli-Za's name was coined in Sonic the Hedgehog: The Complete Sonic Comic Encyclopedia, written by Ian Flynn. Prior to joining Archie Comics as a writer, Flynn was also active within the online Sonic fanbase.
