The Elder Tree is a character that appears in the Sonic the Comic series published by Fleetway Editions. It is one of the magical Ancient Trees that live in the Metropolis City park. It is the oldest living creature on Mobius, and had the authority to speak on behalf of the planet's entire ecosystem.
The Elder Tree first appeared in Sonic the Comic #94, and was created by Nigel Kitching and Nigel Dobbyn.
History[]
When Doctor Robotnik sought to clear the Metropolis City park in order to build a new tower block,[1] various animal protestors attempted to save the Ancient Trees. Troopers from the Special Badnik Service attempted to get rid of them, but were destroyed by Knuckles and Ebony.[2] Nevertheless, the Elder Tree tried to convince the protestors to leave, as he did not want them to be hurt when Robotnik sent reinforcements.
When Omen arrived with two cyborg gorillas as henchmen, Knuckles and Ebony once again tried to fight them off. However, one of the gorillas fired a missile at Knuckles. Although Knuckles was able to dodge, the missile then hit the Elder Tree, who was completely destroyed in the resulting explosion, leaving only a stump behind.[1]
Nevertheless, once the park was saved, the other Ancient Trees revealed that the Elder Tree would grow again. Two days later, new shoots had begun to grow on the stump of the Elder Tree, which was now the most sacred spot in the park.[3]
Trivia[]
- In Sonic the Comic #95, "Roots, Part 2", the Elder Tree claims it is "the eldest of the fauna". In fact, fauna refers only to animal life. The corresponding term for plants like the Elder Tree would be flora.
