The Eggtoberfest is an event that appears in the Sonic Boom series published by Archie Comics. It was an intended annual carnival, hosted by Dr. Eggman for the local villagers on Seaside Island so the doctor could earn their trust, but was laid to waste by Eggman himself.[1]

Description[]

Held at Dr. Eggman's lair around his fortress, the Eggtoberfest is a large funfair with several forms of carnival-related entertainment. This includes several tents, various food booths, carousels of various kinds, rollercoasters, ferris wheels, high strikers, a spook house, boat rides, and oddly enough, a warehouse with torches and pitchforks. All the rides have surveillance equipment installed, allowing Eggman to spy on everything from inside his lair.[1]

Setting a festive mood are several decorations, including balloons and banners. During the carnival, Dr. Eggman was dressed up in lederhosen and its associated attire with Orbot and Cubot.[1]

History[]

Archie Comics[]

Boom Shaka-laka[]

The Eggtoberfest was conceived and built by Dr. Eggman as a way to buy the local villagers' trust for future schemes. The majority of the villagers came to the Eggtoberfest, but it was not long before they discovered that none of the rides worked, which was because Eggman had forgotten to hire operators. The villagers quickly formed an angry mob which Eggman calmed down once he got Team Sonic to run the rides.[1]

As all seemed well, Eggman thought he had gotten the villagers on his side, but learned from surveillance that none of them bought his attempt to bribe them. In retaliation, Eggman unleashed his army on the villagers which Team Sonic managed to defeat, though not without their battle reducing the Eggtoberfest to a smoking ruin.[1]

Trivia[]

  • The name of this event is a pun of the name for the "Oktoberfest", the world's biggest funfair held annually in Munich, Bavaria, Germany. This resemblance is further enforced by the attire Dr. Eggman and his lackeys wore during the carnival which is of German origin.
  • The impetus for creating the Eggtoberfest stems from the personal preferences of Bill Freiberger (the writer of the story that featured the Eggtoberfest), who has often expressed his interests in the Oktoberfest and alcoholic beverages on Twitter.[2]
  • The Eggtoberfest can be seen as a parallel to "Eggmanland", a similar funfair-themed scheme which Eggman's main series counterpart constantly wishes to make a reality.
