Eggman Land is a location that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. It was an energy refinery designed to resemble an amusement park with lethal attractions created by Dr. Eggman as part of his plan to harvest and refine the energies of Dark Gaia unleashed during the Shattered World Crisis. However, it was destroyed during Dark Gaia's resurrection.
History[]
Past[]
Ever since his plans to establish his own empire began, Dr. Eggman's uttermost dream was to build a refinery, amusement park, and death trap, all of these combined into one major city he dubbed Eggman Land.[1] Perhaps his earliest attempts to do so involved using the Time Stones on Little Planet[2] and harnessing Chaos' power to destroy Station Square and build his own city on its ruins.[3] He would also team up with Eggman Nega twice to create an alternate Zone that contained Eggman Land in it, first by using the power of the Chaos and Sol Emeralds,[4] and later by harnessing a powerful energy contained inside the Jeweled Scepter.[5] Another plot to build his city involved splitting Sonic's World into various Zones using his newfound technology known as the Genesis Waves.[6] However, all of these attempts were thwarted by Sonic and his allies. Eggman had also started to build his utopia at some point before the Black Arms' invasion, though his operations were allegedly halted due to said invasion.[7]
Recently, a future version of Eggman Land appeared during a possible event of the Time Eater incident. Here, Eggman fought against Sonic in his Egg Dragoon mech, but was defeated.[note 1][8]
Shattered World Crisis[]
Act One[]
After determining that Dark Gaia energy was an abundant source of energy, Dr. Eggman decided to harvest it for his own uses. Due to his own eccentricities, he decided to construct a refinery that incorporated death-trap thrill rides into its design.[9]
Act Two[]
Eventually, Eggman succeeded and an alternate version of Eggman Land was born. The refinery soon began harvesting Dark Gaia energy, the goal being that it would be used to supercharge the Death Egg. However, his operations attracted the attention of Wendy and Walter Naugus, who invaded Eggman Land with the aid of their Witchcarters.[1]
Detecting interference, Eggman and Metal Sonic went to investigate and found his Badnik Horde crystalized. Suspecting the Naugus twins, Eggman proceeded deeper into the refinery, where the Witchcarters ambushed him and Metal Sonic. During the fight, the Naugus twins joined the fight and crystalized Metal Sonic. Seeing that resistance was futile, Eggman escaped Eggman Land to gathered his Egg Bosses and regain control of Eggman Land.[10] The team's first step is to sabotage the facility's defences, so Eggman sent each of his Egg Bosses in pairs to complete certain objectives.[11] Meanwhile, the Naugus twins were at the Summoning Spire, where Walter was trying to harness the refinery's collected energy to fully restore the powers he lost because of the first Genesis Wave. However, Wendy soon realized that the spire has been shut down and she could not call the Witchcarters to her aid. Eggman and his Egg bosses then confronted the twins and engage them in battle.[12] Despite regaining control of the Witchcarters and having Crystal Sonic on their side, the Naugus twins were defeated by Eggman's team, which allowed the doctor to retake control of his facility.[13]
Eventually, Eggman Land was invaded again, but this time by Sally, Antoine, Bunnie and Tails, who planned to shut down the Summoning Spire before its energy could be used to supercharge the Death Egg. However, they soon discovered that Eggman had stationed two Super Badniks and an entire Badnik Horde to guard the refinery.[14] Although the Freedom Fighters were able to fight through the Badniks, they were unable to deactivate the spire because the gathered Dark Gaia energy began to reform into Dark Gaia, tearing Eggman Land apart in the process.[15][16]
