On a Sunday afternoon, Sonic is joyriding in his car through the local canyon. There, he is met by Tails, operating his vehicle with Knuckles in tow on a hoverboard. Sonic takes the opportunity to propose a race to Tails, who excitedly accepts, oblivious to Knuckles being slammed into several rocks as a result of his reckless driving. The race is cut short, however (much to Knuckles' relief), when Sonic is interrupted by an "emergency" transmission from Amy on his Communicator, who requests that Sonic purchase eggs from the local marketplace for a recipe she is attempting. Wasting no time, Sonic extricates himself from the race and heads towards Hedgehog Village.
  +
  +
Upon arrival in the village, Sonic accidentally splashes Eggman, who was buying groceries, with mud as he passed. Immediately apologetic, Sonic freely allows Eggman the opportunity to splash him with mud in retribution. However, in his attempt to do so, Eggman merely covers himself with more mud. Now enraged, Eggman dispatches a number of his robots to attack Sonic, who handily destroys them. Jeered by onlookers in the wake of his defeat, Eggman, perceiving himself as the victim of the situation, is confused. Sonic, in response, contends that such a reaction is the result of his history of malicious behavior.
  +
  +
Thoughtful, Eggman considers a way to improve his personal image when he witnesses the sale of the newly-released Tommy Thunder video game. This inspires him to create his own video game in his own image to enhance his reputation. After successfully developing his video game, named Stache Smash, Eggman begins marketing it in the Village Center, but is soon chided by Tails and Knuckles; they criticize the game's archaic format and insist that games based on motion capture offer a superior product. As such, Eggman revises his plan to develop a new game using motion capture, dubbed Super 'Stache Smash.
  +
  +
To do so, he attacks Hedgehog Village while having a number of Spy Bots surreptitiously record Team Sonic in the midst of the ensuing battle in order to recreate their abilities in-game. After the destruction of all his robots, Eggman then has the Spy Bots record a number of his clumsy personal stunts that he intends to implement into the game. Team Sonic watches this in bewilderment, and Sticks wonders if they should retaliate against him, seeing as his moves are embarrassing enough; Sonic spin attacks Eggman over the horizon, putting aside the fact that he would feel bad doing so after his poor display.
  +
  +
At Eggman's lair, he, Orbot, and Cubot review the footage; Eggman deems his stunts to be insufficient and, at the unappreciated advice of Orbot, resolves to enlist Shadow the Hedgehog to fight Sonic so as to provide superior footage for his in-game character to use. Eggman manages to track down Shadow and attempts to offer him a proposition, but is quickly rebuffed by the hedgehog in light of their failed previous partnership and is told to leave. Therefore, Eggman attempts to devise a way to manipulate Shadow into attacking Sonic. To this end, Eggman approaches Sonic's Shack with the intention of deceiving Sonic into saying unflattering comments about Shadow in front of a microphone and camera. When Sonic only makes neutral remarks, however, Eggman instead edits the resulting footage to make it sound as though Sonic is trash-talking Shadow and shows it to the latter within a cave he has taken residence in; in spite of the doctor's laughably poor editing, the hedgehog is furious and spurred to retaliate.

  +
In the Village Center, Knuckles is telling Tails a joke when Shadow ambushes them; Eggman arrives not too far from the scene in the Eggmobile and orders his Spy Bots to capture the ensuing mayhem from multiple angles. In the midst of the largely one-sided fight, Shadow teleports away as Knuckles throws a punch, knowing Tails was attempting to attack him from behind, causing Knuckles to incapacitate the fox with the punch; he then defeats the echidna with a shoulder charge from behind. Soon afterward, Amy and Sticks enter the fray and continually fail to land a blow; they are eventually grabbed from behind by Shadow, lifted into the air, and tossed away to land hard on the ground, defeated as well. Nevertheless, Amy barely manages to contact Sonic on her Communicator for help before collapsing.
  +
  +
Immediately arriving on-site, Sonic looks around to see his badly-injured friends struggling to get back up and asks Shadow what he has done, but the only response he gets is another shoulder charge that knocks him through three trees and into a wall, leaving him stunned in the rubble; Shadow stands over Sonic, prepared to finally finish his rival off as the episode fades to black (and Knuckles expresses his dissatisfaction with the cliffhanger ending).
