The unnamed father of Doctor Eggman is a character that is mentioned in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. He is one of the two sons of Gerald Robotnik, who developed a passion for robotics. His current status is unknown, with the possibility that he has long passed away.

History[]

It has been suggested that Eggman's father comes from a long line of brilliant scientists.[1] Eggman's father would be born as one of the two sons of the genius Gerald Robotnik, and would follow on his father's footsteps, getting his doctorate in record time in the area of robotics.[2]

He would lose contact with his father much later, during Gerald's work in the Space Colony Ark, where he tried his best to save Maria Robotnik from her incurable disease. This led to Maria's father to grow distant with Gerald, with a riff forming between both brothers' families.[3][4]

At some unknown point in time, his son Ivo Robotnik was born.

Ivo Kintobor, from Sonic the Hedgehog #72.

In the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs, Ivo Kintobor is an overlander and husband to Bertha Kintobor, who was the daughter of Gerald Robotnik. He is the father of Colin Kintobor and Julian Kintobor, the latter who in the future would adopt his first name and his mother's maiden name and become the infamous Dr. Ivo Robotnik.

Ivo, although long deceased, would cease to exist with the Genesis Wave, with the new Dr. Eggman's family unknown in the new reality.

Trivia[]

  • Doctor Eggman's parenthood is a topic rarely brought up across the franchise, with some versions of the doctor not having a father being acknowledged.
  • Evan Stanley designed Robotnik Sr. to bear a resemblance to his son, Doctor Eggman. However, this was done with little supervision, and her design could be changed by Sonic Team in the future.
  • Egg Memo #17 suggests "everyone", including Ivo's father, was very fond of Maria, even long after her passing, which led to him ignoring a young Ivo. However, it is unknown how reliable the word of Eggman is.
