The Egg Scrambler[1][2], also known as the Jet Mobile[3] (ジェットモービル[4] Jettomōbiru?), is a vehicle from the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a vehicle created by Dr. Robotnik that can change the seasons. It was used by the doctor during the second part of the Angel Island incident.
Description[]
Appearance[]
The Egg Scrambler is a half pear shaped blue shell with the Egg Mobile exposed. This "shell" contains a gold bezel, a small tube on the back of what appears to be bronze, and a blue antenna (slightly lighter than the shell). Under the Egg Mobile, there are two medium thrusters connected to this shell.
Features and abilities[]
The main feature of the Egg Scrambler is that its antenna can change the seasons of its beam target. The shell it contains is shown to be very tough, as it can withstand the iron balls it hits. However, it has a major flaw: it has the Egg Mobile exposed. By hitting it enough times, the Egg Scrambler becomes uncontrollable. Its antenna is very fragile too, since with a simple Spin Attack it can be destroyed.
History[]
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles[]
In Sonic & Knuckles, and the lock-on game Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Dr. Robotnik deployed the Egg Scrambler when Sonic and Tails were still meddling in his plans in Mushroom Hill. However, the hovercraft did not last long in battle and ended up colliding into a large tree/mushroom.
Much time later, an Eggrobo used the Egg Scrambler to dispose of Knuckles in Mushroom Hill. Like before, however, the vehicle collided into a tree/mushroom and got destroyed in the process.
Other game appearances[]
Sonic Jam (Game.com)[]
In Sonic Jam (Game.com), the Egg Scrambler appears as one of the bosses in Mushroom Hill Zone.
Battle[]
<< Previous boss | — | Sonic & Knuckles Egg Scrambler |
— | Next boss >> |
The Egg Scrambler is the boss of Mushroom Hill Zone Act 2 in Sonic & Knuckles and Sonic 3 & Knuckles as well as the second boss overall in the former. In the latter, it is the fifteenth boss in Sonic's and Tails' stories and the fourteenth boss in Knuckles story. In Sonic & Knuckles, it is fought by Sonic or Knuckles, and in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles, it can also be fought by Tails on his own or as Sonic's partner. In Sonic Origins Plus, it can also be fought with Amy.
Boss guide[]
The boss first starts with attacking the lightning-shooting antenna that is changing the environment of the Zone. It can be destroyed with a Spin Attack without problems. After destroying it, the scrambler's controller shows up on the Egg Scrambler, and the battle begins.
During this boss fight, the character runs nonstop while chasing the Egg Scrambler. The player can also press left or right on to control their speed. In the chase, small groups of iron balls will appear between logs, requiring the player to dodge them by jumping at the right time or simply keeping running on the ground. The Egg Scrambler will constantly hover to the left and right. By getting close enough, the player can jump and hit the exposed Egg Mobile. This requires care since its thrusters while they are burning will damage the player unless they wield a Flame Shield. After hitting the Egg Scrambler, the playable character will go to the left side of the area, forcing them to keep running, catch up to the boss and hit it again.
When fighting the boss as Knuckles, there is an additional formation of iron balls which features two rows of them that requires the player to jump high enough to avoid the bottom row of spikes but not hit the higher row of balls.
Eight hits are required to conclude the battle. By giving those eight hits, the Egg Scrambler starts exploding and it will eventually collide with a tree/mushroom, and the player will be able to proceed to the Capsule and then end the Zone.
Trivia[]
- A glitch occurs during Knuckles' playthrough, where Robotnik's sprite is replacing the Eggrobo's on the machine after losing a life once during the battle. This glitch was later fixed in Sonic & Knuckles Collection and Sonic Origins, respectively.
- Oddly, whenever the Egg Scrambler is damaged, the iron balls are also seen taking damage, meaning that they also flash when the Egg Scrambler itself is hit.
- In Sonic Origins, the tip of the Egg Scrambler's satellite has a new animation for falling off when the boss battle is initiated, instead of instantly disappearing in the original game.
- A glitch can occur during Knuckles' encounter during the boss where the music stops until after the boss is defeated.

- The satellite whose destruction restores the state of Mushroom Hill is likely the same environment-changing device mentioned in the Japanese manual of Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
