The Egg Scorcher Mk. III[1] (フレイムモービル[2] Fureimu Mōbiru?, lit. "Flame Mobile"), also known as Doctor Robotnik's Flame Craft,[3] or Robotnik's Fire Machine,[4] is a vehicle that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a weaponized hovercraft that was used by Dr. Eggman during the first part of the Angel Island incident.
Description[]
Appearance[]
The Egg Scorcher Mk. III is a rather bulky, sphere-shaped hovercraft. It is dark blue in color and is equipped with two large, steerable cannons on either side. It also has a small orange dome on the bottom of the main pod.
On one occasion, the Egg Scorcher Mk. III's design was simplified. Here, it was much smaller, about the same size as the standard Egg Mobile. Its cannons were smaller and shorter as well and were cylinder-shaped. Also, the dome on the bottom of the Egg Scorcher Mk. III was crimson instead of orange.
Features and abilities[]
The Egg Scorcher Mk. III is capable of flight. It can also fire intense fireballs.
History[]
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles[]
In Sonic the Hedgehog 3, and the lock-on game Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Dr. Robotnik used the Egg Scorcher Mk. III during an attempt to exterminate Sonic and Tails when the duo began to interfere with his plans in Angel Island Zone. However, the doctor and his vehicle were defeated by the two heroes.
At some point, an EggRobo piloted a rebuilt Egg Scorcher Mk. III and confronted Knuckles with it. However, the vehicle was destroyed by the echidna easily.
Other game appearances[]
Sonic Jam (Game.com)[]
In Sonic Jam (Game.com), the Egg Scorcher Mk. III appears as one of the bosses in Angel Island Zone.
Sega Heroes[]
In Sega Heroes, the Egg Scorcher Mk. III returned as one of the three mobiles Dr. Eggman could pilot.
Battle[]
The Egg Scorcher Mk. III is the boss of Angel Island Zone Act 2 in both Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and the second boss overall in those games. In Sonic the Hedgehog 3, the player encounters this boss as Sonic and/or Tails, while in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles, it can also be encountered while playing as Knuckles. In Sonic Origins Plus, it can also be fought with Amy.
Boss guide[]
The fight starts when the player crosses a wooden bridge; the Egg Scorcher Mk. III emerges through the waterfall and drops a fireball on the bridge, destroying it. This creates a bottomless pit which will cause the player to lose a life if the playable character falls into it.
The Egg Scorcher Mk. III will then disappear behind the waterfall, becoming impossible for the player to hit, and emerge again in a new location to attack the player again. Robotnik will move in certain patterns, either to the far right, upper left corner or left side. Robotnik will fire two fireballs each time it emerges, and Sonic will only be able to use the Spin Jump on it again during those times. The fireballs will not hurt the player if they have a Flame Shield equipped. After eight hits, the Egg Scorcher Mk. III will be destroyed, and the player will be able to hit the Capsule descending from above and finish the Zone.
When playing as Knuckles in Sonic 3 & Knuckles, the fight against the Egg Scorcher Mk. III piloted by an EggRobo is nearly identical, but it will also sometimes fire four fireballs at once.
Trivia[]
- If the player is playing as Sonic and Tails and Sonic goes for the early hit when Robotnik destroys the bridge and gets Tails stuck behind the boss, Tails will bounce between the locked screen and the boss, defeating it within a few seconds.
- In Sonic Origins, the bridge pieces destroyed during the battle now keep their collision until they start falling.

Sonic Adventures[]
In Sonic Adventures, the Egg Scorcher Mk. III appears as Dr. Robotnik's main transportation vehicle instead of the regular Egg Mobile. While not having the important role in the story, the arm cannons have motors behind them and function as flamethrowers instead of launching fireballs.
Trivia[]
- The Egg Scorcher Mk. III appears on the American boxart of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, where it is seen firing flames instead of fireballs.
- In the end credits for Wreck-It Ralph, Sonic is seen losing his Rings, when Eggman in the Egg Scorcher Mk. III appears in surprise in Chemical Plant Zone.
