History[]
Past[]
At some point in the past, Dr. Eggman had stationed many Egg Pawns at a base of his. Despite the Egg Pawns' efforts, this base was later taken down by the Diamond Cutters and several of the robots were destroyed.[1] During the war between the Eggman Empire and the Resistance, the Egg Pawns were used as soldiers by the former faction. One Egg Pawn in particular nearly killed Silver during the Eggman War, but was sniped in the last moment by Whisper the Wolf.[2]
After mercenary duo Rough the Skunk and Tumble the Skunk liberated Barricade Town from Badniks and subsequently conquered it for themselves near the end of the Eggman War, Egg Pawns and Death Egg Robots began stalking Barricade Town.[3]
After Sonic the Hedgehog thwarted Dr. Eggman and ended the Eggman War, the doctor disappeared while his Egg Pawns and the rest of his Badnik army remained. Without a leader however, the Egg Pawns were directionless and no longer a unified threat.[4] Even so, they would still randomly attack anyone they came across[5] (although such incidents were more accidental than aggression-based[4]).
Fallout![]
Eventually, the Egg Pawns came under the control of Neo Metal Sonic, who made them and their fellow Badniks more cohesive.[4][6]
Soon after, the Egg Pawns and some other Badniks launched an attack on a small town called Vista View. A civilian tried fending off a few Egg Pawns with a Cube Wispon to protect the other locals, but an Egg Pawn easily knocked him down. Before the Egg Pawns could get the civilian however, Sonic arrived and destroyed them. Eventually, the Egg Pawns tried to escape the town when Sonic and Tails began overpowering their troops. As they neared the town's exit gate however, the Egg Pawns got cut off when Tails closed the town's gate, which caused them to crash into the gate and get destroyed.[4] More Egg Pawns soon after attacked the neighboring town, called Riverside, from the west while the Death Crab distracted Sonic and Amy. Marching into the town, the first wave of Egg Pawns found Sonic attacking their troops and forced him back through sheer force of numbers, allowing enough of them and some Egg Walkers to enter the town square. There, however, they got gunned down by the town's militia, which had been organized by Amy. Regardless, more Egg Pawns tried advancing into the town, but their numbers soon got so thinned out by Sonic and Amy, who came across and defeated a Blowfish Transporter dropping Egg Pawns, that the town's militia was able to handle them.[5]
Some time after, a larger-than-average battalion of Egg Pawns onboard a battleship variant of a Buzz Bomber launched an attack on Spiral Hill Village. Sitting in the sky above the village, the battleship would deploy Egg Pawns and giant Motobugs into the village. While the Egg Pawns attacked the village, some civilians fought back against them using Wispons. Eventually, Sonic arrived and began attacking Egg Pawns. After disposing of some of them, he came across Tangle the Lemur for the first time, who was taking out Egg Pawns as well. The two joined forces to dispose of more Egg Pawns, but then a giant Motobug with a turret on its head and an Egg Pawn at the helm of its turret appeared and began shooting and destroying other Egg Pawns in an attempt to hit both Sonic and Tangle. Then another giant variant of Motobug without guns appeared, causing both Sonic and Tangle to be surrounded by the two giant Badniks as well as more Egg Pawns. Just then, Blaze the Cat made an appearance and disposed of some of the Egg Pawns. After some introductions, the three teamed up to defeat all of the surrounding Badniks, including the battleship variant of the Buzz Bomber that was dropping Badniks into the village as well as its load of Egg Pawns.[7]
The Fate of Dr. Eggman[]
When Neo Metal Sonic made his move to invade Angel Island, he used Egg Pawns to man his numerous Egg Fleet battleships. A number of Egg Pawns were present when Sonic boarded an Egg Fleet battleship with the help of Tails and the Tornado. When he encountered Neo Metal Sonic, a group of Egg Pawns were present with the Badnik ringleader. The two began fighting, and Neo Metal Sonic threw pieces of an Egg Pawn that he had accidentally destroyed at Sonic, which the hedgehog successfully dodged. Neo Metal Sonic then commanded all of his Egg Pawns to attack Sonic, and they did so with Egg Spears and shields in hand, but Sonic disposed of them all and ultimately escaped. Regardless, the rest of the Egg Pawns carried on with the invasion plan under the orders of Neo Metal Sonic.[6]
Battle For Angel Island[]
After Neo Metal Sonic conquered Angel Island and turned it into a flying fortress, Egg Pawns were stationed around the island. However, these Egg Pawns soon after came under attack by the Resistance and their allies, who sought to liberate Angel Island.[8] Although the Egg Pawns were no match for the heroes, they were able to slow down their efforts. During the battle, some Egg Pawns also tried to stop Tails from taking control of an Egg Fleet vessel, only to be kept at bay by Silver. When the heroes managed to destroy both of the massive wing units that had been attached to Angel Island, all the Egg Pawns on said wings plummeted down from the sky with them.[9]
Sonic Fan Club[]
While wandering around on its own in a forest, an Egg Pawn got challenged by a member of the Sonic Fan Club. Turning its attention to the child, the Egg Pawn attacked him. Soon after, the whole Sonic Fan Club joined in on the fight, but were unable to do much damage to the Egg Pawn. The Egg Pawn then met some resistance when Tangle the Lemur showed up and began attacking it, but she ended up tying herself into a knot with her own tail. Unfortunately, the Egg Pawn got destroyed by Sonic when he passed by.[10]
Tangle & Whisper[]
Several Egg Pawns were provided to Mimic by Dr. Eggman (who had recently regained his memories) so that he could attack Tangle the Lemur and Whisper the Wolf at the former Diamond Cutters' base. They were transported to the base by a Blowfish Transporter but were knocked into the Clove Sea after Whisper destroyed the docks.[11]
Out of the Blue[]
In Starline's repository, he had several Egg Pawns loyal to him move boxes of Eggman's items around.[12]
Bad Guys[]
At Egg Base Sigma, Dr. Starline had to avoid the Egg Pawn patrols armed with shields and Egg Spears guarding the base. After an unsuccessful attempt to take over the base, Starline fled from the Egg Pawns answering the summon to Starline's intrusion, which he was unable to fight. Later in Dr. Starline's repository, Egg Pawns in service to Starline would work around the base.[13] At some point, an Egg Pawn that was carrying tea in Starline's repository was sat on by Tumble and had its kettle taken from it.[14]
Several Egg Pawns were later stationed at one of Eggman's bases. There, they fought Mimic, Rough, Tumble and Zavok when they arrived on the scene but were soon disposed of. Mimic in particular impersonated some of the Egg Pawns in order to surprise-attack them.[14] Soon after, a group of Egg Pawns stationed at one of the Eggnet's hubs came under attack by Zavok and Mimic, who used their Core Gear-enhanced strength to destroy them all.[15] Not long after, Dr. Starline's Egg Pawns would move Starline into Egg Base Sigma, after the scientist managed to seize the base for himself. There, they mainly dealt with unloading Starline's projects, as well as erasing the Eggman Empire's decals around the base.[16]
Chao Races and Badnik Bases[]
Having gathered several used Egg Pawns in his suite at the White Park Grand Chateau, Clutch would activate them and have them attack Amy, Cream, Gemerl and Belle after they had crossed him.[17]
Test Run![]
A large number of Egg Pawns were later stationed at a tower Eggman had built as an advanced robot testing facility. While investigating the tower with Tails and Amy, Sonic wiped out several Egg Pawns guarding the entrance. When the trio soon after stumbled into one of the tower's test chambers, Sonic found another Egg Pawn drawing on the walls with chalk and quickly destroyed it.[18] Meanwhile, Tangle and Belle arrived at the tower and found the Egg Pawns Sonic had wrecked at the entrance. Inside, the girls observed a number of other Egg Pawns at work and sneaked past them. At one point, a trio of Egg Pawns came across Belle when she fell down onto a walkway directly in front of them. However, they ignored her and moved on, since Belle was a Badnik herself.[19]
Imposter Syndrome and Trial by Fire[]
When Dr. Starline had to conduct tests on Surge and Kit, he had several Egg Pawns go up against the pair during their test courses at Starline Base Sigma.[20] During the last of these tests on a training course, a number of Egg Pawns got torn apart by Surge.[21]
The Egg Pawns stationed at Egg Base Alpha soon after had to deal with Starline and his cohorts too when they invaded their base. One Egg Pawn on guard duty in particular got reprogrammed by Starline through an ambush, prompting it to welcome Starline inside the base. The rest of the base's Egg Pawns soon after fell under Starline's command as well due to an override program of his, making serve Starline while continuing their work.[22] Not long after, several Egg Pawns stationed in Eggperial City would help Dr. Eggman coordinating the city's defenses against Surge and Kit from the city's headquarters when the duo began wrecking havoc around the city. Eventually though, Starline uploaded an override program into Eggperial City's servers, prompting Eggperial City to sent out an override signal that brought the Badniks all over the world under Starline's control, including the Egg Pawns. As the Egg Pawns in Eggman's headquarters came for him however, Eggman fled through his escape chute to the Memorial Garage. Meanwhile, the other Egg Pawns in Eggperial City would escort Starline to his new seat of power in the city, awaiting his subsequent orders. As for the remainder of the Egg Pawns around the world, they would make their way towards Eggperial City upon Starline's command, eventually arriving in said city in droves.[23] While the Egg Pawns on route would ignore the people they met along the way however, they eventually began attacking Sonic, Tails, and Belle not too far from Eggperial City when they tried to stop Motobud. However, they abandoned their attack after Belle cut Motobud's power, and continued their march towards Eggperial City.[24]
Battle for the Empire[]
The Egg Pawns that had remained in Dr. Eggman's quarters after Dr. Starline took over soon found themselves dodging an attack to the area from Eggman in his Egg Emperor mech. Later, after Eggman regained control over his Badniks, the doctor had the Egg Pawns and other Badniks in Eggperial City surround Sonic, Tails, and Belle. He also had a few Egg Pawns work on tidying up a badly damaged area in the city.[25]
Overpowered[]
Urban Warfare[]
Relic Robbing Rumble[]
Several Egg Pawns and other Badniks helped defended the Egg Base Delta against Knuckles, Vector, Espio, and Charmy when they broke into the city and began attacking them (due to the heroes thinking that Dr. Eggman and his Badniks were the ones who stole their relic). However, once Dr. Eggman informs Knuckles and the Chaotix that he had nothing to do with stealing their relic, the heroes would then stop attacking the Egg Pawns and other Badniks before proceeding to leave Egg Base Delta.[26]
Winter Jam[]
Trivia[]
- The Egg Pawns is the same enemy from the Sonic the Hedgehog video games.
- Although it made its comic debut in Sonic the Hedgehog #1, the Egg Pawn was unnamed in the comic until Sonic the Hedgehog #2.
