The Egg Mobile is an object that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series published by IDW Publishing. It is a one-man, multi-purpose hovercraft created and piloted by Dr. Eggman as a personal means of transportation and combat.

There are several versions of the Egg Mobile, as it varies from model to model. Generally, it is a small floating craft with a seat for one person and a very distinctive egg shape. In its first appearance, it had black and yellow hazard stripes on the sides, a black circular hemispherical bottom, rocket engines at the rear for propulsion, and two small circular lights at the front. The cabin itself was found to have a driver's seat and a control system.[1]

The second Egg Mobile model had a black lower hemisphere on each side. Its forehead had a large blue bulb circled for the headlights and a pair of smaller turrets.[2]

Features and abilities

The Egg Mobile's weapon attachments, from Sonic the Hedgehog #23.

In addition of serving as a means of transport, the Egg Mobile is equipped with multiple weapon accessories that allow it to be used as a means of combat, such as wrecking balls, saws and cannons.[1] The Egg Mobile also has the ability to easily attach itself to Eggman's various mechs. becoming a cockpit for these machines from where Eggman controls them. Plus, if these machines are defeated, the Egg Mobile then serves as an escape pod, allowing the pilot to eject mostly unharmed from the larger machine.[2]

Despite being quite resistant to explosions,[2] it is not very solid from a structural point of view, since a single strong impact, such as a Spin Attack, is capable of destroying it.[1]

The Last Minute

Sonic destroys the Egg Mobile, from Sonic the Hedgehog #23

While attempting to command the Zombot horde at Barricade Town by testing different radio frequencies, Dr. Eggman, who was accompanied by Dr. Starline, used the Egg Mobile to stay a safe distance above the group. After Sonic showed up at the town, Eggman engaged in battle with him, deploying the Egg Mobile's weapon attachments. During their battle, Sonic jumped onto the Egg Mobile in an attempt to spread his infection to the doctor, causing them both to fall off the vehicle. Meanwhile, Starline used the Egg Mobile to find an effective command signal, but before he could upload it as per Eggman's instructions, Sonic quickly destroyed the Egg Mobile.[1]

Out of the Blue

After the Metal Virus was destroyed and Sonic mysteriously disappeared, Dr. Eggman used a new Egg Mobile as the cockpit for his Giga Omega mecha that incorporated E-123 Omega. With this new mecha, Eggman attack Spiral Hill Village in order to eliminate Sonic's friends, who were having a party there. However, Eggman was forced to use his Egg Mobile as an escape pod when Giga Omega got destroyed following the sudden return of Sonic. After exchanging a few words with Sonic, Eggman departed in his Egg Mobile.[3][2]

Zeti Hunt

Dr. Eggman later used his Egg Mobile as the command module for a snowman-based mecha he took to Winterburg. There, he would use it to fight Sonic. After the mecha and the nearby Egg Base were destroyed by Sonic, Eggman escaped in his Egg Mobile.[4]
