Dr. Eggman, Sonic Colors.

The Egg Mobile (エッグモービル Eggu Mōbiru?), also known as the Egg-O-Matic,[1] the Eggpod,[2] and originally Eggman's Mobile (エッグマンモービル Egguman Mōbiru?),[3] is an object that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a one-man, multi-purpose hovercraft created and very frequently piloted by Dr. Eggman as a personal means of transportation and attack vehicle. The Egg Mobile can be fitted with a wide array of weapons and is known for its universal compatibility to combine with Eggman's various vehicles and creations, and serves as well as an escape pod when they are inevitably defeated by Sonic the Hedgehog and/or his allies. Over the course of the series, the Egg Mobile has come in various designs.

Description

There are various versions of the Egg Mobile, as in the games it varies from game to game. Universally, it is a small hovering craft with a very distinct egg-like shape. Other well known features of the Egg Mobile are black and yellow hazard stripes on the sides, a black circular hemispherical underside, rocket engines on the rear for propulsion and a small circular lamp on the front. The cockpit itself is seen to have a driving seat, a small windshield and the cockpit's control system.

The Egg Mobile can be fitted with a seemingly endless amount of gadgetry. Not only does the doctor use it as his mode of transportation but also as the cockpit of even larger doomsday devices and machines. When these are destroyed, Eggman and his mobile will inevitably emerge relatively unscathed from the wreckage. Usually the cockpit is the only weakness during many boss battles. In several games, the most used gadgets of the Egg Mobile are known to be a checkered wrecking ball suspended by chain or claw attachment, that is seen caring larger items at the bottom of the mobile such as the Master EmeraldCapsule or any other item.

Game appearances

Sonic the Hedgehog (16-bit)

Son1 04

Egg Mobile's wrecking ball at Green Hill Zone in Sonic the Hedgehog.

Egg Mobile first appears in the original 16-bit version of Sonic the Hedgehog. It is described as hovering, grey pod and its lower part is completely black. Egg Mobile does have two yellow, mechanical feet for mobile's landing support. In the middle front mobile has single headlight. Each side of mobile does have air seals, small wings, horizontal black and yellow stripes and one motor behind the mobile which is protected from the top with yellow metal shield. It does have low windshield and blue driving seat.

The Egg Mobile's add-ons are simple, sometimes to the point of being minor weapons on an otherwise unequipped Egg Mobile. The Egg Mobile has featured below:

After the encounter in Starlight Zone, the Egg Mobile does not appear in the game until at the end of Robotnik's final confrontation in Final Zone. Robotnik used it as trying to escape quickly after Sonic had defeated the final machine. During this player can do a finishing move to damage the Egg Mobile, leading to Robotnik barely flying away in his own smoke. This, however, is entirely optional and has no effect on anything.

Sonic the Hedgehog (8-bit)

S1-8bitBridgeBoss

Robotnik's submarine mobile at Bridge Zone in 8-bit version of Sonic the Hedgehog.

Egg Mobile appears normally at boss fights in the 8-bit version of Sonic the Hedgehog, like in its 16-bit counterpart. The game also features a submarine-type Egg Mobile twice, as its cockpit was replaced with a metallic shelter with two tubes of each side which fires small trios of energy balls, and a small window where Robotnik can see the outside. The Egg Mobile was featured below:

Egg Mobile doesn't appear in Scrap Brain or Sky Base Zone. At the end of game, after Robotnik got defeated by Sonic in Sky Base Zone, he escaped by teleporting to Green Hill Zone only to get struck down by a spinning Sonic who also teleported above Robotnik's head.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (8-bit)

But seriously, why didn't let him fall to the death

The Egg Mobile in 8-bit version of Sonic the Hedgehog 2.

The Egg Mobile appears briefly in the 8-bit version of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 as it is based on original Egg Mobile from first game. It first appears at intro of the game, where Robotnik kidnaps Tails with a yellow grabber attachment (which would later make infrequent appearances in the series).

It later appears at Act 3 of Under Ground Zone, where Sonic falls to the lava and Robotnik actually saves him with black claw that is set under the mobile (which later becomes horizontally rotating rotor), only to prevail upon the close of zone's boss, Antlion Mecha. Robotnik then on off-screen starts to fire bouncing bombs to Sonic, which only explodes on Antlion Mecha's mouth. At the end Robotnik tries to drive towards Sonic but crashes on Antlion Mecha, which finishes it off and Robotnik flies away with his Egg Mobile. The Egg Mobile does not appear in the game after this as the rest of the Master Robot series takes its place.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (16-bit)

WaterEggman-1-320px

The Egg Mobile in the 16-bit version of Sonic the Hedgehog 2.

The Egg Mobile makes its return in the 16-bit version of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, this time, getting redesigned to look sleeker and more mechanical. The front of mobile is circular, which has small windshield. Each of mobile's side has horizontal black and yellow stripes, tail pipes that curved upper horizontal direction and small wings that has air seals under them and small motors behind them. The behind of mobile has registration plate, which license code states "EGG". The Egg Mobile has circular back plate, which protects the cockpit from behind. The cockpit has foot switch, steering wheel, and brown driving seat.

There's few features that are rarely used in the Egg Mobile. Metropolis Zone's fight features green headlight, which fires yellow lasers. Also at the beginning and ending of Emerald Hill Zone fight, Egg Mobile used horizontally rotating rotor to landing and escaping. The Egg Mobile has forms featured below:

After the conformation at Metropolis Zone, the Egg Mobile doesn't appear in rest of the game, such as at Sky Chase Zone (which has no boss), Wing Fortress Zone (in which Robotnik controls a contained death trap instead of attacking himself) or even in Death Egg Zone which features Mecha Sonic and the final boss, Death Egg Robot. In the 2013 mobile re-release, the player can also fight "Brass Eggman" at Hidden Palace Zone, skipping the Mystic Cave confrontation.

SegaSonic the Hedgehog

The Egg Mobile appears briefly in SegaSonic the Hedgehog, having a design from first Sonic the Hedgehog game. It is seen at the title screen of game as Robotnik is flying in the background. Another time is at the small ending cutscene after the credits, where Robotnik flies in middle of the ocean until the Egg Mobile stops moving due to the lack of fuel and falls to the ocean with Robotnik screaming. Though, Eggman was planned to have modified the Eggmobile once again to be able to fly around on the ground throwing bombs. This was ultimately not used in the final version.

Sonic the Hedgehog CD

Sonic the Hedgehog CD features a few different models of the Egg Mobile. Egg Mobile is featured in the following boss battles:

The main Egg Mobile model was featured in the Collision Chaos duel, where it was part of the pinball machine he was using the escape, and slow Sonic at the same time. In comparison to the first model, it was lower and thinner at bottom. At the front it had a grey Eggman decal, instead of two headlights. It had four propulsion jets on it, one on its back and the other three on its underside, which activate and deactivate depending on which direction Eggman is flying (for example if Eggman if flying forward the jets behind, just below it diagonally, and the middle jet facing down will be activated, while the one that is pointing in Robotnik's forward direction will not be activated).

The same Egg Mobile later appears at Tidal Tempest, as at first Eggman tries to outrun Sonic in a maze (similar to the escaping in Labyrinth Zone, but the maze has no traps to speak of, no water hazard and goes down), and after taking four hits, retreats to an underwater arena, where it activates a shield cup above the cockpit and generates a barrier of bubbles to protect itself from Sonic, who is left to drown (though the idea behind this tactic is flawed, as Sonic can merely jump to the Egg Mobile to both weaken the shield and supply himself with air). A mere hit to the Egg Mobile itself will cause it to retreat from the level.

It later appears in Stardust Speedway. As Sonic races Metal Sonic, Eggman merely follows behind using a very powerful laser ready to toast (instantly kill, regardless of rings) the one that slows down for too long (mainly Sonic, as he never can catch up with Metal Sonic). If Sonic wins, a door closes behind leaving Metal Sonic to be destroyed (though it not easy to tell in game if Metal Sonic is destroyed by the laser or the impact of the Egg Mobile crashing in to the door at full speed). Eggman deactivates the laser after it impacts the door and retreats, leaving Sonic to rescue Amy Rose.

The Egg Mobile is not featured in the Palmtree Panic, Quartz Quadrant, Wacky Workbench and Metallic Madness fights as the machines are independent and Eggman is controlling them without the Egg Mobile being added on. This can be seen as sometimes Eggman runs away after the fight. After the final duel at Metallic Madness, Eggman escapes from Little Planet with yet another kind of transportation craft (though with his craft on fire) and being ready to fight another day. Eggman is also seen using this craft in the background of DA garden feature.

Sonic the Hedgehog Spinball

The Egg Mobile is featured at the Bonus Stage of the 16-bit version of Sonic the Hedgehog Spinball, based on the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 design. At Bonus Stages, the player has to destroy all purple capsules behind the Egg Mobile with their pinball skills and then blow the mobile itself, leaving Robotnik fainted on ground. If you try to blow the Egg Mobile before blowing purple capsules, it will bounce the ball back. It is also the final weapon in the 8-bit version of Showdown.

Sonic Chaos

The cubic-shaped Egg Mobile appears in the intro and bad ending sequences of Sonic Chaos, as Dr. Robotnik away with the red Chaos Emerald in its grabber gadget. Sonic and Tails runs behind him, but he gets away. One of bosses, the Bouncy Boss Robot is basically an Egg Mobile which has a robotic Robotnik drone firing projectiles and bouncing towards the player. The Egg Mobile itself is seen again in Electric Egg Zone where has been modified into the game's final boss, The Laser Walker.

Sonic Drift series

In the racing games Sonic Drift and Sonic Drift 2, Dr. Robotnik drives a racing vehicle based on the Egg Mobile, called the Egg Typhoon-gou or just the Egg Typhoon. The Egg Typhoon itself is loosely based on the Egg Mobile's design from Sonic the Hedgehog 2 without the wings, tail pipes and circular back plate. In the games, the Egg Typhoon has good top speed, but poor acceleration, and can drop mines to distract the other racers.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles

SonicTailsKnucklesHPZ

Robotnik on the Egg Mobile while stealing Master Emerald in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles.

The Egg Mobile makes an appearance in both Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and its add-on continuation Sonic & Knuckles with another different design. The Egg Mobile in these games is smaller and simplistic than earlier designs. This Egg Mobile doesn't have wings at all but instead has two tail pipes. The Egg Mobile's cockpit doesn't have a windshield at all and has a small yellow driving seat, which is supported by a pole behind it.

As the Egg Mobile is small, it has a tendency to use large armored shells that hide the hovercraft itself. The Egg Mobile also has its own gadgets as well. At certain times, the Egg Mobile has glass covers above the cockpit. In Hidden Palace Zone, Robotnik uses its yellow claw which is set beneath the mobile to steal the Master Emerald from the altar. When Knuckles tries to stop him, Robotnik releases two electric whips that are capable of delivering an electric shock.

Eggmobile Sonic 3

In addition to boss battles, the Egg Mobile has also been featured in some scenes as the Robotnik brings the sub-boss of Launch Base Zone to its place and releases for battle. At the end of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, after the first Launch Base Zone boss, Sonic or Tails can ride with an Egg Mobile which was parked right behind the boss fight to reach the relaunching Death Egg. The Egg Mobile has forms featured below:

The Egg Mobile wasn't featured at Death Egg Zone's second sub-boss, as Robotnik controls it from the other side of the tube. While playing as Knuckles, an Eggrobo usually takes Robotnik's place in the Egg Mobile until he and its mobile get destroyed by Mecha Sonic. While playing as Sonic (or Tails), Mecha Sonic uses the Egg Mobile twice in Sky Sanctuary Zone.

Knuckles' Chaotix

Several upgraded Egg Mobiles are used by Robotnik as bosses in the game.

Sonic 3D Blast

In Sonic 3D Blast, the Egg Mobile is featured in the third act of each Zone. It has simple design from previous games, while it is seen to have rocket engines on each side of the mobile and aiming down instead of back. The Egg Mobile is upgraded with small attachments or weapons. During the battle, the player has to reach on the cockpit in order to hit Robotnik and when the player does it couple of times, the glass dome above the mobile starts to breakage and worn out. The Egg Mobile has featured below:

Sonic R

Robotnik 51

Dr. Robotnik along with the Egg Mobile in Sonic R.

In Sonic R, Dr. Robotnik is an unlockable playable character where he uses the Egg Mobile as a racing vehicle, similar to the Egg Typhoon in the Sonic Drift games. The Egg Mobile in this game has the basic appearance for the Egg Mobile without many details. It has great steering, good acceleration and is able to hover over the water sections, but it has low speed and no grip. To unlock Robotnik and his Egg Mobile, the player has to come in first place in the first four race courses.

Robotnik and his Egg Mobile's main weapon in the game is the homing missile, which the player can fire by pressing the A, C, or Y button when the target reticle is green. To lock onto the target, the player has to aim precisely. It also takes ten Rings from the player's score and has brief recharge after launching the homing missile.

Sonic Adventure

In Sonic Adventure, the Egg Mobile retains its basic design but, like the characters themselves, has been updated to look more like a semi-realistic functional vehicle. Most notable is the trio of thrusters positioned behind Eggman's head. Eggman appears multiple times throughout all the player characters' storylines usually riding the Egg Mobile. It is battled two definite times, with add-ons and assists in Sonic's battle with Chaos 6 throughout the course of the game.

The Egg Mobile spewing gas.

During the first visit to the Mystic Ruins in both Sonic's and Tails' storylines, the Egg Mobile appears just in front of Tails' Workshop. After brief banter, it hovers down under a cliff, fitted as the Egg Hornet. The add-ons include much larger thrusters added to the back, rocket launchers, and a pair of thunder 'stingers' on either side. After the battle, without the Egg Hornet attachments, it is shown to have a built-in extend-able clamp, delicate enough to snatch a Chaos Emerald right out of Tails' hands.

Just after the Casinopolis stage for Sonic and Tails, the Egg Mobile appears again. This time, it sprays a knock-out gas on our heroes before any boss battle can begin and uses a green tractor beam under the Egg Mobile to take another emerald.

Just before the battle against Chaos 4 for Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles, the Egg Mobile arrives and steals the emeralds Knuckles just knocked out of Sonic or Tails. At the end of said battle, Dr. Eggman beams aboard the Egg Carrier in the Egg Mobile.

Egg-Mobile-Sonic-Adventure

The Egg Mobile in Sonic Adventure.

During Sonic's battle against Chaos 6, Eggman and the Egg Mobile assist Chaos. There are no attachments added to the Egg Mobile, though Eggman launches freezing robots at Sonic. At the end of Tails' storyline, in front of Casinopolis, comes the Egg Walker, the Egg Mobile attached to four large walker legs. After Eggman loses, he retreats to Final Egg with Egg Mobile while Sonic discovers him and follows him there. The Egg Mobile does not make an active appearance during the Egg Viper boss at the end of the Final Egg, although Eggman is seen flying away with Egg Mobile at ending scene of Sonic's story. The Egg Mobile is also seen at final story of the game, when Eggman discovers Chaos prior the creature's betrayal and the epilogue after the battle against Perfect Chaos.

Sonic the Hedgehog Pocket Adventure

The Egg Mobile in Sonic the Hedgehog Pocket Adventure comes in two different designs throughout the game. The Egg Mobile's first design resembles the one it had in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and can be seen as a part of the boss vehicles at the end of each Zone's second act. This design for the Egg Mobile is last seen in Aquatic Relix when Eggman steals the Chaos Emeralds from Sonic's hands and then flies to Gigantic Angel Zone.

At the end of the game, the Egg Mobile in the final vehicle of Last Utopia Zone has the design it had in the original Sonic the Hedgehog. In the regular ending, Eggman tries to escape in the Egg Mobile, but Sonic's final Spin Jump blows up the Egg Mobile and send it falling down to Earth. If the player got all the Chaos Emeralds in the game, however, Eggman flies away in his Egg Mobile to his final weapon at Chaotic Space Zone. After the battle, Super Sonic gives the finish move and Eggman flies down to Earth with a exploding Egg Mobile. The Egg Mobile boss battles are remarkably similar to the following boss machines:

Sonic Adventure 2

Main article: Eggwalker
File:Advance2 walker.jpg

The Eggwalker in Sonic Adventure 2.

In Sonic Adventure 2, where Dr. Eggman is playable, he rides a modified Egg Mobile, which has become a "chicken walker" mech called the Eggwalker. It has a pair of backward-jointed legs added, a machine gun to one side and a rocket launcher perched above Eggman's head. The two battles against Eggman are fought against this mode.

The traditional flying Egg Mobile appears only during the introduction cutscene of Knuckles and Rouge. In it, he once again uses a yellow claw in an attempt to take the Master Emerald. While Knuckles manages to break the Master Emerald into shards at the time, Eggman escapes back to the pyramid base.

Sonic Advance series

The Egg Mobile reprised its role from the classic games in all three Sonic Advance titles. The Egg Mobile in the first two Sonic Advance titles is rather small with a small windshield and two red and grey colored rocket engines on each side of its back. When the Egg Mobile turns around, it is shown having small pipes with blue fire coming out on the Egg Mobile's downside.

At the end of Neo Green Hill Zone Act 2 in Sonic Advance, the player first encounters Eggman on his Egg Mobile. After each boss fight, Eggman can be seen flying away in his Egg Mobile. In X-Zone, the Egg Mobile is given its design from the original Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2. The Egg Mobile in Sonic Advance is featured below:

In Sonic Advance 2, the Egg Mobile once again resumed its role from the classic games, functioning as an escape vehicle for Eggman. The Egg Mobile is featured below:

In Sonic Advance 3, the Egg Mobile is given slightly different design, having more jet plane-looking appearance with two rocket engines and small red lower wing at the Egg Mobile's bottom. It once again reprises its role from the classic games and during the boss battles, G-merl merges together with the Egg Mobile to be a part of Eggman's machines until the end of the game. Egg Mobile is featured below:

In the bad ending, the characters destroys the Eggman's Egg Mobile after the final boss, sending it plummeting down, while in the good ending (if the player has got all the Chaos Emeralds), Super Sonic and Eggman teams up against the Ultimate G-merl at Nonaggression, where the only thing that can damage Ultimate G-merl is the Tag Action with Eggman where Super Sonic load and fires Eggman in his Egg Mobile into the eye of Ultimate G-merl to open its eye for Super Sonic to damage it. After the battle, Eggman carries the tired Super Sonic back to the Emerald Altar and flies away with the Egg Mobile, as Tails mentions about it to Sonic.

Sonic Pinball Party

In Sonic Pinball Party, the Egg Mobile appears above one of the chao holes on the Sonic Board in Egg Mode. To go to the next stage Eggman must be defeated by putting the pinball in the hole a set number of times. During the game, the Egg Mobile is seen to have similar appearance from original Sonic the Hedgehog.

Sonic Heroes

Eggman heroes

Eggman in the Egg Mobile in Sonic Heroes.

The Egg Mobile make another appearance in Sonic Heroes where is mainly piloted by Neo Metal Sonic under the disguise of Dr. Eggman.

In this game, the design of the Egg Mobile is drastically changed; the main difference is that it no longer has engines in the back, but instead has some kind of propulsion system located at its bottom where ring-shaped beams are constantly being dissipated from it. This design has only appeared in two games (Sonic Heroes and Shadow the Hedgehog) and has since been replaced with the design that was reused from Sonic Adventure.

Throughout the game, the Egg Mobile is seen being attached to a larger battle mech three times for a boss battle; in the first two battles, Neo Metal Sonic manages to escape from destroyed battle mech at the end of fight. It is also seen in the background during Robot Carnival and Robot Storm where Neo Metal Sonic is commanding his troops. The Egg Mobile is featured below:

Sonic Battle

Sonic-Battle-Eggmobile

In Sonic Battle, the Egg Mobile is only seen during the fight against Eggman on Death Egg's battle arena in the final story of the game. In this game, the Egg Mobile is mostly colored red with a black hemispherical underside and two cannons on each side.

During the battle against Eggman in the Egg Mobile, Eggman has five lives. In battle, Eggman fires numerous missiles all over the place which can knock the player into the air, which the player can avoid by running around the wide arena. Eggman can also drop exploding bombs below the Egg Mobile. When knocked into the air, the Egg Mobile slowly lands back down. When the Egg Mobile gets destroyed, it explodes and causes damage to Emerl if he is too close to Eggman.

Shadow the Hedgehog

The Egg Mobile in Shadow the Hedgehog features the same design it had in Sonic Heroes and is seen being piloted by Eggman. The Egg Mobile is only seen twice in the cutscenes in the game, namely in those before starting Cryptic Castle and Iron Jungle, where Eggman is seen giving commands to Shadow Androids from the Egg Mobile. It is also used to pilot the Egg Breaker or the Egg Dealer.

Sonic Rush series

Egg-Mobiles-Sonic-Rush

Aesthetic differences of Dr. Eggman's (left) and Eggman Nega's Egg Mobiles (right) in Sonic Rush.

In both Sonic Rush and Sonic Rush Adventure, the Egg Mobile was the featured vehicle for both Dr. Eggman and Dr. Eggman Nega, with each of them having their own Egg Mobile. In these games, the design of the Egg Mobile is recycled from Sonic Adventure and the only difference between Eggman and Eggman Nega's Egg Mobile is their color schemes; Dr. Eggman's Egg Mobile is grey and yellow, while Eggman Nega's mobile is yellow and red.

In Sonic Rush, both Eggman and Eggman Nega used their Egg Mobiles as cockpits in their larger mechs for boss battles by attaching them to these machines and the only weak point of these machines are the Egg Mobiles' glass dome. Once these machines are defeated, Eggman and his Egg Mobile gets kicked away by Blaze the Cat (if fighting them for the first time) or escape from the battle with the Egg Mobile in a poor condition. One of the doctors is also seen watching the battle between Sonic and Blaze from the Egg Mobile in the background. Despite not taking part in the fight, the doctor (depending on the player's character) strangely flees away in the Egg Mobile in the same manner of that in the previous boss fights.  Either one of the doctors' Egg Mobile is featured below:

In one of the last single cinematic cutscene in Sonic Rush Adventure, Eggman is seen flying in the Egg Mobile alongside the Egg Wizard, before he and Eggman Nega both start using the Egg Wizard to go after the Power of the Stars).

Sonic Riders series

Eggmobile in Sonic Riders

The Egg Mobile in Sonic Riders.

The Egg Mobile in Sonic Riders and Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity uses its design from Sonic Adventure. In Sonic Riders, it is seen being used when Eggman visits on the Babylon Rogues' hideout and when he uses the grabber attachment to snatch the key to Babylon Garden away from Jet's hand and flies to the risen Babylon Garden with Egg Mobile (while in the next cutscene when Sonic and co. finds out Eggman at the Babylon Garden, he has switched his transportation vehicle from Egg Mobile to E-Rider). In Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity, Eggman is briefly seen piloting it while being chased by Babylon Rogues' airship, after Sonic and co. finds out the truth about the Arks of the Cosmos at Gigan Rocks or (in the Babylon's story's case) the Babylon Rouges discovered that Eggman has stolen the Arks of the Cosmos and takes off in the Egg Mobile, with the Babylon Rouges' airship following right behind it.

Sonic the Hedgehog (2006)

Wmplayer 2016-08-25 19-36-53-924

The Egg Mobile in Sonic the Hedgehog (2006)

In Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), the Egg Mobile features a design completely different from all its other known game appearances. In this game, it is a completely gray/silver vehicle that is shaped as a long oval and is big enough to walk at least 20–30 feet on. Another huge difference is that this Egg Mobile has two large detachable and remotely controlled hands that Eggman uses at numerous times throughout the story of the game to kidnap Elise.

The only time when Egg Mobile is ever show being utilized in combat is when it attached itself to the Egg Wyvern, the final boss in the Sonic's story. During the fight, the arm parts on the Egg Mobile can chang into laser cannons. Occasionally, the player has to hit Egg Mobile's cockpit when the Egg Wyvern's upper part opens and Eggman charges laser cannons, which can be used to reach the cockpit with the Homing Attack. After the battle, the Egg Mobile is destroyed along the Egg Wyvern, while Eggman escapes as the Egg Mobile seat is rejected from the Egg Mobile.

Sonic Rivals 2

In Sonic Rivals 2, Eggman Nega, under the disguise of Dr. Eggman, pilots the Egg Mobile as a part of almost every boss vehicle in the game. The Egg Mobile can be briefly seen when the player destroys one of the bosses as it flies away.

The design of his Egg Mobile in this game is drastically different from its previous designs. It has a tubular design with four rocket engines aiming down at the Egg Mobile's sides. To defeat a boss machine, the player usually has to hit the machine's glass dome six times before the rival character does it. The Egg Mobile is featured below:

Sonic Unleashed

In Sonic Unleashed, the Egg Mobile received another new design. The design of this Egg Mobile features the traditional black and yellow hazard stripes on the sides of the Egg Mobile and two back engines with an extra one set on the black hemispherical underside that can fold out. The front of the Egg Mobile has large a bolt on both the center's sides and two different sized glass lamps along the center. It also has a windshield and a retractable glass-like dome to protect Eggman during space travels and his battles against Sonic. Notably, the Egg Mobile is also given a detailed interior, featuring a plush seat for Eggman to sit in while piloting it and two handles for piloting it. This design has since then been the most recent and recurring design for the Egg Mobile.

In the beginning of Sonic Unleashed, Eggman piloted a large prototype mech from his Egg Mobile, which had been attached to the mech, and engaged with it in battle with Sonic when he arrived on the central battleship of the spacial Eggman Fleet. After being defeated by Super Sonic, Eggman escaped in the Egg Mobile to the Chaos Energy Cannon, while Super Sonic chased him through his space armada. At the Chaos Energy Cannon, Eggman got to the main room of the cannon, while tumbling out of the Egg Mobile after losing the control while Super Sonic arrived. When Eggman tricked Super Sonic into the center of the cannon and used him to awaken Dark Gaia, Eggman sought refuged inside the Egg Mobile again before opening a window into space, throwing Sonic the Werehog out the Chaos Energy Cannon.

After that, Eggman is seen using the Egg Mobile as his main transporting vehicle in several of the cutscenes through the game. The Egg Mobile is featured below, though in PlayStation 3/Xbox 360 version, Eggman is replaced with Little Fighters piloting the Egg Devil Ray and the Egg Lancer:

After Sonic defeated the Egg Dragoon and ended up in the center of the Earth, Dark Gaia appeared and Eggman, in the Egg Mobile, commanded it to destroy Sonic and Chip, only to get smashed smashed away and sent to the surface of the Earth. At the end of the game, Eggman and Orbot had crashed in a deserted rocky land with his Egg Mobile.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4

Eggmobile-Sonic4

The Egg Mobile's design in Sonic the Hedgehog 4.

The Egg Mobile in Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I has a slightly different design that looks similar to one it had in the original Sonic the Hedgehog. It has more of a white color scheme, longer wings on the sides and its hemispherical underside function as hatch. It also has a heavier pilot seat in the cockpit. During the the game, the Egg Mobile mostly adapts Dr. Eggman's old inventions from the original Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 with new strategies. The Egg Mobile is featured below:

The Egg Mobile in Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II looks the same as it did in Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I, but has gotten a few new inventions to adapt itself with. The Egg Mobile also shows new ways to merge with Eggman's creations (for example by using a magnet add-on that can be used to fuse scrap metal into a robot). At some point during the Sky Fortress Zone, Eggman rejected the Egg Mobile and used a rocket pod to travel to the Death Egg mk.II, were he has another Egg Mobile ready. In the Death Egg mk.II Zone, Metal Sonic and Eggman in his Egg Mobile teams up to fight Sonic and Tails. The Egg Mobile is listed below:

Sonic Colors

The Egg Mobile in Sonic Colors has the same design from Sonic Unleashed, though it now features an engraving of the doctor's face on the back. In this game, Eggman only uses it as his main method of transport, aside from piloting the Nega-Wisp Armor. In the mid-point of the game, Eggman also installed the Egg Mobile with a mind control beam when attempting to ambush Sonic, but Tails pushed Sonic out of the way, making it brainwashed him instead. It ran out of Hyper-go-on power before a fight could start, however, resulting in Eggman's retreat. After his defeat against Sonic in the Nega-Wisp Armor, Eggman was unable to control the damaged Egg Mobile as he was sucked into black hole. After the black hole was stopped, Eggman, in his Egg Mobile, was pushed forward by Orbot and Cubot in space to prepare his revenge at Sonic. The Egg Mobile was also alluded to in the Tropical Resort level during gameplay via one of Eggman's recordings. He tries to contact for the owner of a "white hovercraft shaped like an egg" as it was being broken into, only to react with surprise, apparently realizing that it was the Egg Mobile that was being broken into.

Sonic Generations

In the console/PC version of Sonic Generations, the Egg Mobile is seen only in cutscenes. It features the same design it had in Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Colors.

After the Death Egg Robot battle, Classic Eggman's Egg Mobile briefly appears before the Time Eater abducted him. As Classic and Modern Sonic, and Classic and Modern Tails confront the Time Eater in the Center of Time, Classic and Modern Eggman reveal themselves as the masterminds behind the Time Eater, both of them sitting in their Egg Mobiles which are connected to the head of the Time Eater. After the Time Eater is defeated, both Eggmans lose their Egg Mobiles.

Sonic Lost World

In Sonic Lost World the Egg Mobile features the same design it had from previous games. At the beginning of the game, the Egg Mobile was carrying a Capsule that hangs suspended from its underside by the claw through the sky. After discovering that Sonic and Tails on the Tornado were chasing after them, Eggman drops the Capsule and shoots to the Tornado using a beam gun. The Egg Mobile is later seen when Sonic found Eggman at Windy Hill, who then introduced the Deadly Six and commanded Zazz to get rid of him.

Later at Desert Ruins, Eggman, in the Egg Mobile, scolded the Deadly Six for their failures, before Sonic managed to kick the Cacophonic Conch from Eggman's far away, thus freeing the Deadly Six from Eggman's control. The Deadly Six then hijacked the present Badniks and ordered to fire on Sonic and Eggman, while Zazz attacked the Egg Mobile before Zomom smashed it into the ground, forcing Eggman and his lackeys to abandon it. At the end of the game, Eggman managed to get another Egg Mobile and attached it to his Eggrobo in Lava Mountain for his battle with Sonic, but was defeated once more.

Sonic Runners

The Egg Mobile makes an appearance in Sonic Runners, where it retains its design from the recent games. The only difference between them is that this Egg Mobile is smaller. Throughout the game, Dr. Eggman uses it as his main transportation to move between his animal capturing operations. Originally, Eggman is only seen piloting the Egg Mobile until the version 2.0 of the game, where a pile of Rings were added to its cockpit.

During the game, the Egg Mobile functions as a sub-boss in every Zone, each time when the player has run over certain amount of meters (500m, 1,800m or 3,500m). After the playable character reaches the Egg Mobile, Eggman starts dropping bouncy Spring-gadgets beneath the vehicle. The player has to jump over them as touching them bounces the playable character into the mid-air and makes them defenseless when Eggman speeds towards him. When the player hits the Egg Mobile using Spin Jump, Eggman becomes stunned, moves further ahead and will drop Rings, Super Rings and even Red Star Rings. Eggman will then repeat the same pattern for rest of the time until getting hit again.

This sub-boss has a time limit for how long the player can battle him. When the time runs out or if the Egg Mobile moves off-screen, Eggman flies away and drops a Bomb that will explode and then transport the player to the next segment.

Eggman on his Egg Mobile also appear as a boss at the end of several episodes. These encounters are slightly different in comparison to sub-boss battles and the player has to defeat the boss in order to continue the game. The Egg Mobile battles are as listed below:

Sonic Runners Adventure

In Sonic Runners Adventure, the Eggmobile's design is virtually identical to the one it had in the original Sonic the Hedgehog. During the game, the Egg Mobile only appears during the boss battles at the end of each chapter, where it conduct battles in ways that are reminiscent of the Iron Ball Eggmobile from Sonic Runners.

Sonic Forces

In Sonic Forces, the Egg Mobile mostly appears in cutscenes. When Classic Sonic encountered Eggman talking with infinite, he waited for infinite to leave, and lunged at Eggman, striking the hull of the Egg Mobile. Annoyed by his sudden arrival, Eggman uncharacteristically attempted to retreat in order to resume his rounding up the Resistance, only for Classic Sonic to give chase, forcing Eggman to personally take aggressive action.

It was then that the Egg Mobile is used as an attack vehicle when Classic Sonic briefly fights him in Green Hill. The fight behaves similarily to their very first encounter, except instead of a wrecking ball, he uses a buzzsaw blade attached to a chain. Classic Sonic managed to destroy the chained buzzsaw attached to the Eggmobile, only to find that Dr. Eggman had been prepared for that eventuality. Remotely calling out the Egg Dragoon, Eggman used the Egg Mobile to pilot the Egg Dragoon.

After the Egg Dragoon was destroyed, Eggman, still inside the Egg Mobile, was sent flying to another part of Green Hill, where Eggman revealed his plan, and pointed out that the Resistance had three days before the plan would succeed. He said this whilst struggling to get the Egg Mobile's thrusters back online, which he eventually succeeded in doing, before promptly taking off.

In the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog television series, the Egg Mobile is referred to as the Egg-O-Matic. Its design is based on the Egg Mobile in the original Sonic the Hedgehog, particularly on how it appeared in the Marble Zone. Like in the games, it is Dr. Robotnik's personal vehicle which he treasures with the outmost affection. It can also be attached with side carts to provide seats for Scratch and Grounder.

In Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie, Dr. Robotnik uses a different hovercraft which goes unnamed. This vehicle is drastically different from the classic Egg Mobile, featuring a purple color scheme, a front resembling a face, and pronounced rocket engines on both sides. It is also equipped with a rocket launcher shooting animal-shaped missiles.

In Sonic X, a few alterations were made to the Egg Mobile. It retains its spherical shape, but unlike the more recent Egg Mobile designs it has small red wings. There is also a long red spike at the bottom that is surrounded by a circle shaped hole. Both were made for unknown reasons, although they could be used to maintain flight as there are no thrusters on this Egg Mobile. Missiles and lasers are located in the body of the craft instead of being released by accessories. It also has a grabber function to snatch Chaos Emeralds.

The Egg Mobile returns in the Sonic Boom franchise where it is named the Eggmobile. Being created and piloted by Dr. Eggman most of the time, the Eggmobile uses similar design to its Sonic the Hedgehog 4 appearance, while having notable design changes, such as lack of backseat and backside. The Eggmobile is also known to have two addable side carts for Orbot and Cubot.

In the Archie Comics' Sonic the Hedgehog and its spin-offs, the Egg Mobile was the personal vehicle of Dr. Ivo Robotnik and later of his successor Dr. Eggman. As the doctor continued expanding his schemes and participated less on the battlefield though, the Egg Mobile would fade out of use and be handed over to the Dark Egg Legion. After recovering from insanity however, Eggman began making use of the Egg Mobile again, even incorporating into his seat of power.

After the universe was recreated by the Super Genesis Wave, the Egg Mobile's history became virtually identical to its game counterpart.

Trivia

  • The alternate spelling "Eggmobile" originated from a track title called "ENEMY:Eggmobile2&3" from the Sonic Adventure sound test, but it has been used as late as Sonic Lost World when the game is set to other languages besides English and Japanese.
  • The Egg Mobile is not seen featured as part of boss vehicles in Sonic Rivals, even through Eggman Nega somehow manages to escape from the battle.
  • During many CGI cutscenes of Sonic Unleashed, Eggman has a Dreamcast lying in the pilot seat of the Egg Mobile's cockpit. There are also two Dreamcast games to be seen, one including the modified Sonic Adventure cover featuring Eggman instead of Sonic and the second game's cover shows artwork of another Sonic Team game NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams.
  • In Sonic Unleashed and later games, the Egg Mobile has a main button with seven lights on the sides which each have the colors of the Chaos Emeralds.
  • In Sonic Mania, one of the four Egg-Robos during the boss battle with the Heavy Gunner in Studiopolis Zone Act 1 will be piloting a larger helicopter-like vehicle loosely based on the classic Egg Mobile. Many design elements that this vehicle has in common with the Egg Mobile include its shape and helicopter attachment seen from the Egg Mobile design in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and pair of mechanical feet featured in the Egg Mobile in Sonic the Hedgehog (1991).
  • The Egg Mobile appears in LEGO Dimensions with a few notable design differences. It has two robotic arms protruding from it at all times, and the headlight has been replaced with a compartment used to store the Keystone Device that Dr. Eggman uses in the Level Pack. It is also much larger than usual to accommodate Eggman's "big figure" proportions.
