The Egg Hanger,[1][2] also known as the Hang Mobile[3] (ハングモービル[4] Hangu Mōbiru?), is a vehicle that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a modified Egg Mobile created by Dr. Robotnik, who used it during the second part of the Angel Island incident.
Description[]
Appearance[]
The Egg Hanger is basically the standard Egg Mobile. Oval in shape, it possesses its usual windshield and yellow seat. It also has a flamethrower on its top part. The vehicle is also surrounded by silver armor that features two gray "arms" with large, crimson, spiked hooks on the ends.
Features and abilities[]
The Egg Hanger has the ability of hanging on thin, long, horizontal bars using its hooks. It also can spew flames using its flamethrower.
History[]
Sonic 3 & Knuckles[]
In Sonic & Knuckles, and the lock-on game Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Dr. Robotnik used the Egg Hanger during an effort to destroy Sonic the Hedgehog and Miles "Tails" Prower during the Flying Battery's fall. However, the vehicle was destroyed by the heroes.
Later, an Eggrobo would use the Egg Hanger to attack Knuckles the Echidna onboard the Flying Battery.[note 1] However, the mech was destroyed by the echidna.
Battle[]
The Egg Hanger is the second of two bosses of Flying Battery Zone Act 2 in Sonic & Knuckles and Sonic 3 & Knuckles, the fifth boss overall in Sonic & Knuckles, and the eighteenth (or seventeenth in Knuckles' story) in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles. In Sonic & Knuckles, it is battled with Sonic or Knuckles, while in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles, it can also be battled with Tails either alone or as Sonic's partner. In Sonic Origins Plus, it can also be fought with Amy.
Boss guide[]
The battle takes place on a flat, thin, long, horizontal bar. Dr. Robotnik on his Egg Hanger will drop directly onto the center of the bar and will swing itself around a couple of times. The mobile can be hit with an Spin Attack/Spin Jump once with each spin. Touching the red hooks at the bottom of the Egg Mobile's cockpit will hurt the playable character. The usual attack pattern consists of Robotnik moving the Egg Hanger towards the player. Touching the spiked hooks on the arms will damage the player. Jumping between the spiked hooks will cause Robotnik to fire flames using the flamethrower on top of the mobile, but can be avoided by quickly jumping away. The flames will not damage the player if they have a Flame Shield. After this, the Egg Hanger will stop following the player and it will swing itself vertically around a total of four times in the same manner as the beginning of the battle. The pattern then repeats until the Egg Hanger is destroyed.
After eight hits, the Egg Hanger will be destroyed. The player will then be able to open the Capsule and finish the Zone.
While playing as Knuckles, the battle will be the same, except that the mech will be more aggressive than before by firing the flamethrower non-stop, even while swinging the mobile itself. The mobile will also only swing twice instead of four times, leaving the player with less opportunities to attack.

Trivia[]
- Due to the Egg Hanger boss fight using unique sprites for Dr. Robotnik not seen in other bosses, no Eggrobo will be driving the vehicle while playing as Knuckles during most releases of Sonic & Knuckles.
- Not counting glitches and hacks, this would make the Egg Hanger the only boss in the game that is not driven by the Eggrobo.
- However, Sonic Origins fixes this, correctly replacing the doctor as the pilot of the Egg Hanger with the Eggrobo in Knuckles' story.

Notes[]
- ↑ 1.0 1.1 In Sonic & Knuckles and all subsequent re-releases, Dr. Robotnik is seen piloting the Egg Hanger instead of the Eggrobo when playing as Knuckles. In Sonic Origins, however, this was corrected to depict the robot instead of the doctor like all other bosses.
