Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog #1

The Egg Hammer[1] is a character that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by IDW Publishing. It is a mass-produced model of Super Badniks created by Dr. Eggman, and a tougher variant of the standard Egg Pawn model.

The standard Egg Hammer looks similar to the Egg Pawn, but is about three times larger and much heavier. They possess purple, sometimes red, armor and a round torso with a black lower half and a thick collar around their neck. They also have two red bolts on their underbelly and large cup-shaped shoulders with round red spikes (similar to knobs). They also possess large hands and feet, yet thin and gray upper arms and thighs, with red bands around their ankles and wrists, and purple armor around their forearms and lower legs. Their hands are mainly purple with gray fingers and their feet are shoe-like and purple with black soles. Lastly, they have dome-shaped heads with menacing light green eyes, sharp red noses, and pointy teeth.

After Sonic the Hedgehog thwarted Dr. Eggman in their last encounter, the Doctor disappeared while his Egg Hammers and the rest of his Badnik army remained. Without a leader however, the Egg Hammers were directionless and no longer a unified threat.[1] Even so, they would still randomly attack anyone they came across[2] (although such incidents were more accidental than aggression-based[1]).

Eventually, the Egg Hammers came under the control of Neo Metal Sonic, who made them and their fellow Badniks more cohesive.[1][3]

Egg Hammer Group

A group of Egg Hammers surround Sonic, from Sonic the Hedgehog #1.

Soon after, the Egg Hammers and some other Badniks launched an attack on a small town called Vista View. When Sonic arrived to stop the attack, he encountered an Egg Hammer that lured him into an ambush where he faced three more Egg Hammers. Tails winded up saving Sonic from them though, and the two teamed up and took down three of the Egg Hammers. Now on the losing end of the battle, the last Egg Hammer tried escaping the town with the remainder of its Badnik troop. However, it was quickly defeated by Sonic while Tails took care of the remaining Badniks.[1]

Tangle & Whisper

In an abandoned Eggman Empire facility, Mimic employed the use of an Egg Hammer that wielded a wrecking ball. It went on to attack Whisper the Wolf. Whisper used her Variable Wispon's Spikes Mode to cut the chain of the Egg Hammer's wrecking ball. She then switched to the Wispon's Rocket Mode and shot at the Egg Hammer's torso, which destroyed it.[4] Another Egg Hammer was provided to Mimic by Dr. Eggman (who had recently regained his memories) so that he could attack Tangle the Lemur and Whisper at the former Diamond Cutters' base. It was transported to the base by a Blowfish Transporter but they were knocked into the Clove Sea after Whisper destroyed the docks.[5]

Basically, the Egg Hammers are mindless and silent drones programmed to follow their leader's every command. As such, when left without a leader to follow, they become directionless and only able to cause harm by accident. Under a guiding force however, they are cold and merciless machines who carry out their commands without question.[1]

Powers and abilities

The Egg Hammers possess immense strength, enough to carry and swing around their large hammers with ease. They are as well well-versed in the usage of hammers, as they know how to use them for both offense and defense. As noted by Sonic, the Egg Hammers can also be pretty fast despite their size.[1]

Egg Hammer Block

Each Egg Hammer carries a large purple and gray hammer with spikes. They mainly use them for basic melee combat, but they can also use them defensively by using their handles to block attacks. Their hammers themselves are quite durable, being able to block a Spin Attack without receiving a scratch, although a Rolling Combo can easily snap them in half.[1] Egg Hammers are also known to wield wrecking balls.[4]
