Egg Fleet

The Egg Fleet is an immense group of flying battleships built by Eggman and appear, in various forms, in Sonic Heroes, Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood and Sonic Unleashed.

Video Game appearances

The Egg Fleet is introduced in Sonic Heroes, where it is composed of hundreds, if not thousands of ships of various shapes and sizes. The armada first appears to Team Sonic when they defeat the Egg Albatross, flying away from the base, which was described as a distraction so the fleet could launch. The Egg Fleet appears as the final level, where all teams fly from ship to ship, and destroying at least one each, until the level is complete, where it is followed by all teams having to make its way through the Flagship, called the Final Fortress. It is here where the final boss for each team's story mode (apart from the final story) is fought, the Egg Emperor. In the first Egg Fleet level, there is a lot of choices and oppurtunity for rings, level ups, and lives. At the end of Team Sonic's story, several of the ships randomly collide together. During the final story, Metal Sonic destroys and fuses with part of the Flagship, becoming Metal Madness, and during Team Super Sonic's fight with the Metal Overlord, Metal Sonic would not hesitate to throw any remaining ships at the heroes. Although the flag ship, and possibly the majority of the Egg Fleet survive the encounter, the types featured in Sonic Heroes have never been seen since.

An Egg Fleet is featured in Shadow the Hedgehog (though referred to as the Eggman Fleet by Eggman). This armada is far less impressive than the older fleet, composing of noticeably fewer ships, with almost no variation between them, of which only five can be fought directly in the Sky troops stage. The player never lands on any of these ships, and engages four normal ships and a flag ship (which is simply a bigger ship with more firepower, and is in no way bigger than any previous flying battleship) using cannons. The Egg Fleet has a minor role, being simply a defensive against the Black Arms flying fortress, which are old architecture Black Doom says to have installed on the planet over 2,000 years ago. Due to its small role in a level that is completely avoidable, it is unknown if this is a canonical event in accordance to the final story, or if the Egg fleet won or survived against the Black Arms.

In the intro to Sonic Unleashed, Eggman has what appears to be a modified version of the Egg Fleet, which is in space. It's numbers are much bigger than those of the Shadow the Hedgehog Egg Fleet, but not quite as large as the Sonic Heroes Egg Fleet.

The Egg Fleet is also seen in Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood. They are first seen in the intro when Team Sonic, Amy and G.U.N attack the fleet and destroy it and Eggman (although they realize later he survived). The Egg Fleet is also seen in Metropolis controlled by the Marauders. Sonic, Knuckles and their team hijacks one of the ships but the crew members sabotage it. Meanwhile, Tails, Eggman and their team use a laser cannon to destroy the Egg Fleet before it's to late but accidently hits Sonic, Knuckles and there teams ship, causing them to crash on Angel Island.

Sonic Heroes

The Egg Fleet is a gigantic armada of floating battleships that appeared in Sonic Heroes, containing what seems like hundreds of battleships. Each battleship was armed with powerful cannons, and resembled an aquatic creature. It is speculated by Knuckles that the Egg Fleet's flagship is bigger than the Egg Carrier.

After finishing the Bullet Station level as Team Sonic, Eggman reveals that he had just distracted them all along. The heroes spotted the Egg Fleet among the clouds, and headed for it. Eventually, all four teams (Team Sonic, Team Dark, Team Rose and Team Chaotix) reached the Egg Fleet, and made their way towards the flagship where Eggman was located. On the flagship, the teams faced off against Eggman, and for some reason the Egg Fleet ships started to ram into each other and explode. At this point, Metal Sonic revealed himself to be the true mastermind behind the plot, and as such it can be assumed that he made the Egg Fleet or took control of it after Eggman had made it. The teams fought Metal Sonic on the flagship, and he transformed into Metal Overlord, who was then fought by Team Sonic in their super forms. During the battle, Metal Overlord sometimes picked up Egg Fleet ships to throw at his enemies. After defeating Metal Overlord, the teams leave the flagship.

The Egg Fleet has also lately appeared in the Sonic the Hedgehog Archie comic, commanded by Snively Kintobor. One of its first uses was in capturing the force of criminals led by Mammoth Mogul and Ixis Naugus

, and later on it assisted Super Sonic, Super Shadow, and Turbo Tails in an attack on A.D.A.M.. And it was later destroyed by the second Enerjak (which was Knuckles).

The Egg Fleet contains the following ships. With the notable exception of Final Fortress (Which is labeled as the Whale Shark Flagship and Final Fortress by Team Chaotix's mysterious client and the game itself, respectively), the ship's names are not official, but instead a nickname due to its shape.

• Mako shark gunship - A red ship shaped like a mako shark. It was the basic ship of the fleet, and was armed with a battery of cannons.

• Sawfish battleship - A formidable ship, larger and more heavily armed than the gunships and shaped like a blue sawfish. In the background of the Egg Fleet stage, it shows that one battleship leads a group of five gunships. They can be destroyed by spinning into their internal mechanisms, causing the bridge to self-destruct.

• Manta ray ship - A giant purple ship in the shape of a manta ray. Though they are battle ships of similar function as the other ships, none of the characters actually board any of these ships. Their size is unknown, but is assumed to be greater than the sawfish ships.

The Final Fortress

• Whale Shark Final Fortress - This massive ship is the flagship of the Egg Fleet. It is in the shape of a whale shark and is much larger than any of Eggman's previous flying fortresses. The Final Fortress was heavily armed, and could have easily been the equivalent of the rest of the fleet in size and armament. It's also where the final levels take place. It was never destroyed in the end of Sonic Heroes and Eggman presumed to decided to hide it and repair it and use it when he feels like it. He uses this ship at the beginning of Sonic Chronicles, and as Sonic and his friends are battling him, Tails rip of the cords of what may looks like the main controlling system of the entire ship which caused it to lose control, break apart, and exploded onto Metropolis while Sonic and his friends escaped on the Tornado.

The Egg Carrier was also mentioned by Amy when she said, "This weather reminds me of our last attack on the Egg Carrier"

This Ship also appeared in Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing where 3 course took place there including Turbine Loop, Dark Arsenal, and Thunder Deck.

Shadow the Hedgehog

The Eggman Fleet appeared as another armada in Shadow the Hedgehog. It is very similar to the Egg Fleet, but it is unknown if the Eggman Fleet is a remnant of the Egg Fleet, or an entirely new fleet. The ships are red with yellow stripes.

The Eggman Fleet was used by Eggman to battle the Black Arms aliens who also want to take over Earth. When he saw their destruction in his base, he sent the Eggman Fleet to fight their airborne Glyphic Ruins. Shadow the Hedgehog got mixed up in the battle during the Sky Troops stage, and the player could choose to help the Black Arms or Eggman by destroying the ships of either faction. It is unknown who really won the battle, due to the game's choice-filled nature. The Eggman Fleet is also mentioned by Eggman in the cutscene before the Iron Jungle stage.

The Eggman Fleet is made up by the following ships:

• Battleship: Red ships very similar to the mako shark ships from the Egg Fleet. They are armed with only three cannons, but appear to have teleportation technology. All ships in the fleet except for the Flagship are Battleships, and Shadow can choose to destroy four of them.

• Flagship: The flagship of the fleet is large, but not enough to rival the Final Fortress, or even the Egg Carrier. It is armed with eight cannons on the ship's belly. Shadow doesn't board it, but can instead destroy it as the fifth ship of the stage.
