The Egg Chaser (エッグチェイサー, Eggu Cheisā^?), also known as the Aero-Chaser (エアチェイサー, Ea Cheisā^?, lit. "Air Chaser"), is an enemy that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a mass-produced Badnik created by Dr. Eggman that is capable of high-speed flight and possesses several destructive armaments.

Although early models of this Badnik were simply generic humanoid robots, later models of the Egg Chaser were redesigned to be in-line with the Pawn Series Badniks.

Appearance

In Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Generations, the Egg Chasers are humanoid Badniks with cream and lime green colored, sphere-shaped torsos and a round head integrated into them. They each have three cyan eyes and a row of green lights on their heads that resemble teeth. They have two rather small legs on the bottom of their bodies and a small arm on each side of their torsos. On their backs, connected at their shoulders, they have a pair of large triangular jetpacks, about twice the size of their torso. The jetpacks have a triangular laser turret built into their sides (one on the robot's left and one on the right) connected by a cream colored hinge and at the top of the packs are missile launchers with cream colored covers.

In Sonic Colors, the Egg Chasers closely resemble green and yellow Egg Pawns. They have ball-shaped torsos with a hemisphere on top of them that act as their heads. They also wear blue, single-lensed goggles over their eyes. They also have large feet with short legs and their laser turrets are built into their triangular wing-like arms. On their backs, they have large cylinder-shaped jetpacks. They are also all colored lime and have black underbellies.

In Sonic Forces, the Egg Chasers look like blue Egg Pawns from said game. As such, they have completely egg-shaped bodies with heads built in to finish the shape. They also have long configurable laser cannons for arms, thin legs, black visors over their red eyes, and two large cylinders on their backs as jetpacks.

Sonic Unleashed

The Aero-Chaser, from the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 version of Sonic Unleashed.

The Egg Chasers first appeared in both the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 version and Wii/PlayStation 2 version of Sonic Unleashed as mini-bosses, under the name Aero-Chaser. In both versions, they can only be encountered in the daytime stages. Whenever they appear, they will move up in front of Sonic and the player will stuck auto running for as long as they are present.

Xbox 360/PlayStation 3

In the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 version, the Aero-Chasers can be found in Savannah Citadel Act 5, Rooftop Run Act 1, 1-2 and 4, Skyscraper Scamper Act 1, 1-2, and 3, and Jungle Joyride Act 1, 1-2, and 5.

In this version, the Aero-Chasers always appear in groups of three. Their standard attack is shooting laser beams down their lane towards Sonic, though they can be dodged with a well-timed Quick Step. Additionally, they can shoot missiles into the ground to create firepits (which can be dodged by jumping or Quick Stepping) or set up electric fields (which can be dodged by jumping). The player can only damage the Aero-Casers by knocking incoming Egg Fighters into them with the Sonic Boost which will stun them for a moment. Usually, an Aero-Chaser has to be hit twice before it is destroyed. However, they will sometimes destroy themselves by hitting an obstacle behind them. Whenever an Aero-Chaser is destroyed though, another will appear to take its place, but only until the player leaves their section, upon where they depart.

Wii/PlayStation 2

In the Wii/PlayStation 2 version of the game, the Aero-Chasers can only be encountered in Rooftop Run's and Jungle Joyride's main Stage.

In this version, only one Aero-Chaser appears in each encounter. They attack by either shooting large laser beams down their lane towards Sonic (which they can be dodged with a well-timed Quick Step) or by shooting missiles that home onto Sonic (which can be dodged by jumping at the right time). The player can in this version attack the Aero-Chasers directly with either the Homing Attack or Sonic Boost.

Sonic Colors

In the Wii version of Sonic Colors, and the remaster Sonic Colors: Ultimate, the Aero-Chasers return, now known as Egg Chasers. They appear as enemies and can be found in Starlight Carnival Acts 1 and 5, Planet Wisp Acts 1 and 3, and Terminal Velocity Act 1. They award the player 2,000 points when destroyed.

In these games, the Egg Chasers appear in groups of two-to-three where they will attack by shooting lasers like they did in Sonic Unleashed. Also like in Sonic Unleashed, when the Egg Chasers appear, they get up in front of the player while the player starts to auto run until they are through the section with the Egg Chasers. Also, the player can only damage the Egg Chasers by knocking incoming enemies into them with the Boost, though this is only possible in rare cases. Even if an Egg Chaser is destroyed though, another one will appear to replace it; it is only until the player leaves the section with the Egg Chasers that they will leave.

In the Sonic Simulator, there will pairs of Egg Chasers that sometimes deploy a field of electricity on the player's path (much like in Sonic Unleashed) which can be evaded by jumping.

Sonic Generations

In the console/PC version of Sonic Generations, Egg Chasers from somewhere across spacetime appear as enemies in both Acts of Rooftop Run. In this game, they possess their design from Sonic Unleashed, but do not retain their original name used in said game.

In Rooftop Run Act 1, the Egg Chasers will appear before Classic Sonic as stationary enemies and will attack with enclosing laser beams. These lasers, however, cannot penetrate walls or platforms. The Egg Chasers can also easily be destroyed with a Spin Jump. In Rooftop Run Act 2, the Egg Chasers behave much like they did in Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Colors, though they only attack with their lasers. The player can only damage them by knocking incoming Egg Fighters into them with the Boost. This time around however, no Egg Chasers will come to take the destroyed ones' places.

Sonic Forces

In Sonic Forces, the Egg Chasers appear as enemies. In this game, they have been redesigned to resemble blue-colored Egg Pawns from that game. The player encounters them in Prison Hall, Egg Gate and Final Judgement.

In gameplay, the Egg Chasers are encountered more frequently during the stages than in other games. Other than that, they behave much like they did in Sonic Colors, namely by staying ahead of the player during Auto Running sections while firing lasers down the lanes the player is using, only to depart from the scene when the player leaves their section. It is also impossible to attack the Egg Chasers under any circumstances in this game.

Other game appearances

Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed

In Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, the Egg Chasers in this game retained much of their appearance from Sonic Colors. They can be found on the race course Galactic Parade where they serve as obstacles, particularly for leading racers, by shooting lasers on one side of the stage and slowing down those they hit. However, these lasers are far apart, making it possible for the racers to drive between them; this is also due to them being massively scaled up in size compared to their prior appearances.

Sonic Forces: Speed Battle

In Sonic Forces: Speed Battle, the Egg Chasers from Sonic Forces appear on the race tracks. In gameplay, they act as stationary obstacles for the player come across, perpetually floating in midair. However, they do not attack the player and can easily be destroyed using the Spin Jump.

Personality

The Egg Chasers tend to get so caught up in attacking their targets that they forget to keep an eye out for obstacles behind them, making them prone to crash into obstacles coming up from behind them.

Powers and abilities

Due to their built-in jetpacks, the Egg Chasers are capable of high-speed flight. They can fly at speeds rivaling that of Sonic's running speed, both when moving forward and backward.

The Egg Chasers have a wide range of armaments built into them. Their main weapons are two laser cannons that can fire powerful laser beams with incredible range. They can also launch rockets from their jetpacks which can either home onto their target, create a wall of fire upon impact, or set up trap-like mines that will create an electrical field between them.

IDW Publishing

In the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by IDW Publishing, a sketch of an Egg Chaser (using their appearance from the Dark Gaia incident) was seen pinned on the Chaotix Detective Agency's evidence board alongside sketches of other Badniks.
