The Egg-Cell[1] is an object that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. It is a holding cell comprised of forcefield technology Robotnik uses for his Energy Domes.
Description[]
Appearance[]
The Egg-Cell is an energy field[2] with an appearance of green-yellow tint surrounded by white bubbles. It materialized to be large enough to contain the core Knothole Freedom Fighters, minus Rotor Walrus. It's dome shape resembles that of an egg.
Features and traits[]
The Egg-Cell restricts the movements of those trapped inside it. In particular, it is made with an electrical field to shock anyone attempting to break out. It's powerful energy shock is enough to keep Sonic the Hedeghog at bay.
Given none of Robotnik's forcefield technology is ever broken by force throughout the Archie comic series, the Egg Cell is likely able to sustain the force of Enerjak and Super Sonic quite like New Mobotropolis's forcefield.[3]
History[]
I Am The Eggman[]

Bunnie gets knocked out, from Sonic the Hedgehog #75.
After arriving on the Egg Station, the Freedom Fighters encountered Robotnik. A fight ensues and upon revealing himself to be Robo-Robotnik Mach 2, Robo-Robotnik used the Egg-Cell to trap the Knothole Freedom Fighters. He gloated to the heroes, explaining his motivation, and is actively invading the Prime Zone to begin round 2 of his game. Robo-Robotnik then contacted King Max, gloating about his capturing of the Knothole Freedom Fighters. Maximillian begged him to spare them in exchange for his own life. In the meanwhile, Sonic repeatedly tried to break out of the Egg-Cell, only to be shocked every time. Eventually, Robo-Robotnik left to attend to other matters.
As the heroes contemplate their options, it was then Snively who came by to deactivated the Egg-Cell, as Robo-Robotnik scares him. After freeing the heroes, they teamed up to form an alliance and preform damage control.[1]
Trivia[]
- Like some of Robotnik's inventions, the Egg-Cell is an egg-themed device made before he christened himself by the "Eggman" moniker.
- Also like many inventions, the Egg-Cell is used once, successfully, before being discarded and never reappearing. Though, it is unknown if Robo-Robotnik knew the Freedom Fighters escaped because of Snively or not.
