The Earth is a location that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog film series produced by Paramount Pictures. It is a planet located on the "far side of the universe" that Sonic the Hedgehog took residence on after he had to escape from his planet.

Description

Overall, Earth is almost identical to the real-life planet. It is mostly blue in color due to most of its surface being covered by water. Numerous countries can be visited on Earth, such as Egypt, Japan and the United States.

Earth is mainly inhabited by sapient animals called humans, though other non-anthropomorphic animal species, such as turtles and koalas, also live on the planet.

Past

At some point in the past, the evil Dr. Robotnik was employed by the United States government, whom Robotnik would aid in averting several incidents, including civil wars in the Middle East.

Ten years ago, Sonic the Hedgehog found himself on Earth after being forced to leave his home planet. Staying in hiding, away from the Earth's human population, a lonely Sonic settled down in a cave near Green Hills, Montana.

Sonic the Hedgehog

In the present day, Sonic tried to play baseball himself. However, as his frustrations grew over having no one to play with but himself for seemingly the rest of his life, he accidentally unleashed an electromagnetic pulse that caused a blackout across the Pacific Northwest. In response, the United States government sent out Dr. Robotnik to investigate the incident.

With government forces hot on his trail, Sonic fled to Tom Wachowski's shed so he could escape to another planet with the use of a Ring in peace. However, he was found by Tom, and the latter shot him with a tranquilizer. As Sonic passed out, he accidentally sent his remaining Rings to San Francisco. When Sonic later recovered under Tom's watch, Sonic convinced Tom to help him hide from Robotnik when he arrived. However, when Tom got on Robotnik's bad side, he and Sonic escaped. Afterward, Sonic convinced Tom to help him get to San Francisco and get his Rings back so he could escape Earth. In the meantime, Robotnik set out to capture Sonic with his associates so he could uncover the source of Sonic's powers for his own needs.

While trying to kill Sonic and Tom during their travel, Robotnik learned to harness the power of one of Sonic's energized quills for his Eggpod. Meanwhile, Tom and Sonic arrived in San Francisco. There, Sonic, Tom and Maddie retrieved Sonic's Rings, only for them to be attacked by Robotnik aboard his Eggpod. After Sonic sent Tom and Maddie to Green Hills with the use of a Ring, he was pursued by Robotnik across the planet as he tried to escape the doctor through Rings, before ending up in Green Hills again. There, with Tom's help, Sonic managed to defeat Robotnik and sent him to the Mushroom Planet.

After this incident, Robotnik's records were erased by the US government, and Sonic was allowed to move in with the Wachowskis. The US government also tried to make contact with Sonic, but failed.

In the meantime, Tails arrived on Earth while looking for Sonic.

Around the World in 80 Seconds

After making his home in Green Hills, Sonic started a travel diary to keep track of the many locations on Earth over the course of eighty seconds. He first visited Los Angeles, and then went to Arches National Park. Later, he went to the Great Ball Court of Chichén Itzá. He followed through London, Paris, India and Egypt. Then he went to Japan, which was followed by Sydney. Soon after, he returned to Green Hills, although he hoped to one day visit Madrid, the Sahara Desert and Yosemite National Park as well.
