The Earth is a location that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog film series produced by Paramount Pictures and its spin-offs. It is a planet located on the "far side of the universe" that is considered by more advanced cultures to be a backwater planet.[1] It was here Sonic the Hedgehog took residence after he had to escape from Mobius.
Description[]
The Earth is a spherical astronomical body. Its surface is covered mostly in large bodies of water that extend across millions of square miles, making the planet primarily blue in color. Dotting Earth's surface are also a number of landmasses that range between massive continents and smaller islands. Orbiting the planet is also the moon, which illuminates it during nighttime.

The landscapes on Earth are not out of the ordinary and generally consist of large lands, mountainous territories, and deep forests as natural environments; and massive cities and small villages as artificial ones. Aside from that, though, there are areas that present natural loop-de-loop and ramp-like formations. Despite that, many of these places are touristic destinations which have something interesting to offer. Notably, however, the planet has also had signs of alien activity there, principally from the giant owls. This is obvious because of the temples that can be found across Earth. Nevertheless, these are very rare and are usually hidden.
Earth is inhabited by a plethora of living beings, such plants and animals. However, the most advanced species by far is the human race, which has inhabited several points of the planet for millenia and built impressive buildings such as the Great Wall of China and the Great Ball Court of Chichén Itzá. At least seven of these have even been considered the "wonders of the world". Humans have also established various sovereign states across the planet, which include, but are not limited to, Egypt, Japan, and the United States. Nevertheless, there are various territories with little to no population, as well as parks whose nature is preserved. Additionally, in recent times, Earth has been inhabited by alien beings such as Sonic.
The inhabitants have also been known to celebrate holidays the real world celebrates, additionally Santa Claus is shown to be a real phenomenon on the planet.
History[]
Film series[]
Past[]
Ages ago, the giant owls chose the Earth as the hiding place for the Master Emerald. Housed inside a great undersea temple hundreds of miles away from Hawaii, the Master Emerald was left impossible to find without a compass, which itself was hidden away inside a mountain temple in eastern Siberia.
Over fifty years ago, Shadow the Hedgehog came to Earth in a meteorite that crash-landed in a quiet place in Oklahoma and was discovered by a team of scientists led by Professor Gerald Robotnik, kickstarting a scientific experiment revolving around the "Ultimate Lifeform". The project ultimately got cancelled due to an accident that claimed the life of Maria Robotnik, leading to Gerald getting arrested and Shadow contained in suspended animation.
At some point, the evil Dr. Robotnik was employed by the United States government, whom the doctor would aid in averting several global incidents, such as a coup in Pakistan and an uprising in Azerbaijanistan.
Ten years ago, Sonic the Hedgehog came to Earth after being forced to leave Mobius. Staying in hiding, away from the Earth's human population, a lonely Sonic settled down in a cave near Green Hills, Montana.
Sonic the Hedgehog[]

In the present day, Green Hills' world-weary sheriff, Tom Wachowski, received a letter of admission for the San Francisco Police Department, leading him and his wife, Maddie Wachowski, to plan their move to San Francisco. In the meanwhile, Sonic tried to play baseball himself. However, as his frustrations grew over being all alone, he accidentally unleashed an electromagnetic pulse that caused a blackout across the Pacific Northwest. In response, the United States government sent out Dr. Robotnik to investigate the incident.
With the government on his trail, Sonic fled to Tom's garage so he could escape to the Mushroom Planet with a Ring in peace. However, he was found by Tom, and the latter shot him with a tranquilizer. As Sonic passed out, he accidentally sent his remaining Rings to San Francisco. When Sonic recovered under Tom's watch, Sonic convinced Tom to help him hide from Robotnik when he arrived. However, when Tom got on Robotnik's bad side, he and Sonic escaped. Afterward, Sonic convinced Tom to help him get to San Francisco and get his Rings back so he could escape Earth. In the meantime, Robotnik set out to capture Sonic with his associates so he could uncover the source of Sonic's powers for his own needs.

While trying to kill Sonic and Tom during their travel, during which the hedgehog and human bonded through some escapades, Robotnik learned to harness the power of one of Sonic's energized quills. Meanwhile, Tom and Sonic arrived in San Francisco. There, Sonic, Tom and Maddie retrieved Sonic's Rings, only for them to be attacked by Robotnik aboard his Eggpod. After Sonic sent Tom and Maddie to Green Hills with a Ring, he was pursued by Robotnik across the planet as he tried to escape the doctor through Ring portals, before ending up in Green Hills. There, with Tom's help, Sonic defeated Robotnik and sent him to the Mushroom Planet. Afterward, Robotnik's records were erased by the United States government, and Sonic was allowed to move in with the Wachowskis, who had decided to stay in Green Hills after everything that had happened. The United States government also tried to make contact with Sonic, but failed.
In the meantime, Tails arrived on Earth while looking for Sonic.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2[]
Following the incident in San Francisco, G.U.N. was formed to protect the Earth from alien threats. Having deemed Sonic a threat to Earth, G.U.N. began enacting Operation: Catfish to ensure Sonic's capture, namely by arranging a wedding between agent Randall and Rachel, the sister of Maddie Wachowski and one of Sonic's abiders, in order to lure Sonic into their trap.
Several months after his battle with Dr. Robotnik, Sonic began a secret career as a vigilante, but with limited success, prompting several conversations with Tom about heroism and responsibility which eventually go through to Sonic. Soon after, Tom and Maddie went on vacation in Hawaii to attend Rachel's wedding, leaving Sonic alone at home. Soon after, Tails arrived on Earth looking for Sonic to warn him of Knuckles the Echidna, who was looking for him in order to find the Master Emerald. Meanwhile, having made a deal with Dr. Robotnik, Knuckles was brought to Earth by Robotnik so the latter could have his revenge on Sonic using Knuckles. When it came to blows between Sonic and Knuckles however, Sonic was ultimately saved by Tails. Meanwhile, having learned of the Master Emerald during Knuckles' bout with Sonic, Robotnik forged an alliance with Knuckles under the guise of desiring to help Knuckles retrieve the Master Emerald so he could destroy Sonic with it, when he in truth planned to seize the relic for himself. Meanwhile, Sonic and Tails discovered a lead on the compass leading to the Master Emerald after finding a message from Longclaw, who passed the duty of guarding the Master Emerald over to Sonic. Heading to eastern Siberia, Sonic got into hot waters with some bar patrons, but they managed to settle their dispute. In the meantime, with resources provided by Agent Stone, Robotnik and Knuckles were able to track Sonic and Tails.
The next day, Sonic found the compass in Siberia's owl temple, only for Robotnik and Knuckles to arrive and attack them. During the ensuing scuffle, Sonic and Tails lost the compass to Robotnik and Knuckles, and Tails got knocked unconscious. Left then to escape an avalanche, Sonic called Tom and got him to create a Ring portal for him and Tails to escape to Hawaii through, arriving in the middle of Rachel and Randall's wedding ceremony. There, G.U.N. captured Sonic, Tails, and Tom despite being warned that Robotnik was back to threaten Earth. Fortunately, Maddie and Rachel managed to free Sonic, Tails, and Tom and deal with Walters and Randall. In the meantime, Robotnik and Knuckles found the Master Emerald's temple in the Pacific Ocean, which drew the attention of Sonic's crew and G.U.N. Heading out to stop Robotnik and Knuckles alone, Sonic eventually intercepted the pair in the Master Emerald's temple, only for Robotnik to steal the Master Emerald and escape with it while Sonic and Knuckles fought. As the temple then began collapsing, Sonic would save Knuckles from death, who in turn saved Sonic from drowning. Afterwards, Sonic and Knuckles joined forces to stop Robotnik and regain the Master Emerald.
As G.U.N. surrounded Robotnik's base of operation in Green Hills, Robotnik would appear from it in an empowered state. With his new powers, Robotnik constructed the Giant Eggman Robot, forcing G.U.N. to retreat. Soon after though, Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles reached Green Hills and engaged Robotnik and his robot. Eventually, Sonic would distract Robotnik and his machine, allowing Tails and Knuckles to reach Robotnik and deprive him of the Master Emerald. Beaten, but not defeated, Robotnik used his robot to go after Sonic and the Master Emerald, only for Tom and Maddie to appear and save Sonic from certain doom. Sonic then tried using the Master Emerald to defeat Robotnik, only for it to shatter and release the Chaos Emeralds. Using the Chaos Emeralds however, Sonic became Super Sonic and defeated Robotnik. Afterwards, Sonic relinquished the Chaos Emeralds, which subsequently disappeared. Knuckles would them repair the Master Emerald, which he, Sonic, and Tails agreed to guard together. Afterwards, Sonic would resume his lifestyle on Earth, but with his new friends and foster family by his side.
In the meantime, after G.U.N. failed to find Robotnik and think he's dead, they learned of a facility with connections to Project Shadow.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3[]
On Prison Island, G.U.N. security officer Kyle Lancebottom monitored Shadow the Hedgehog. When Gerald Robotnik breached the systems securing Shadow's containment tank, the trauma triggered Shadow’s escape. After defeating a squad of soldiers, Shadow skated across the Pacific, heading for the Rainbow Bridge, where he fought off G.U.N. forces. Unyielding, he continued to Shibuya Crossing, where he defeated both G.U.N. and the Tokyo Police.
Meanwhile, Sonic celebrated the anniversary of his arrival on Earth, his "Bearthday," with Tom and his friends in Green Hills. During a walk the next morning, Sonic revisited his old cave, reflecting on memories with Longclaw and questioning if she would be proud of him. Tom reassured him that she would, as Sonic’s heart guided his choices. A G.U.N. helicopter soon arrived, and Director Rockwell requested Team Sonic’s help in Tokyo to handle a threat.
Exiting a ring portal thrown in Green Hills, Montana, Team Sonic arrived in Tokyo, Japan and skydived into Shibuya Crossing. There, they confronted Shadow, who easily defeated them. After which, Shadow escaped on a G.U.N. motorcycle, with Sonic in pursuit. Shadow raced up the Tokyo Skytree, using chaos energy to power his bike. As Sonic followed, the two collided at the top, their chaos-infused fists causing a citywide blackout.
Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles regrouped on the Skytree, and Tails led them to a Chao Garden restaurant to speak with Walters. Walters revealed Project Shadow’s downfall, before succumbing to his injuries after an attack from Robotik’s Flying Eggs. After being given a keycard for G.U.N.'s Eclipse Cannon from a dying Walters, the team chased Stone to a dock, where he invited them into the Mecha Crab, Eggman’s hideout. Eggman and Stone denied attacking Walters and, to prove it, tracked down the real culprit, leading Team Sonic to reluctantly team up with them to stop Shadow.
Shadow reached the abandoned G.U.N. facility where he grew up and reunited with Gerald Robotnik. At the same time, Team Sonic and Eggman entered the facility, encountering three hallways where Shadow took them down one by one. Sonic, after learning about Maria Robotnik, was defeated. Shadow spared Eggman but revealed that he and Gerald had been working together, forming “Team Robotnik.”
After being captured, Team Sonic and Stone learned that Gerald and Eggman planned to destroy G.U.N.'s headquarters in London using the Eclipse Cannon. Despite Sonic’s concerns, Eggman and Gerald left to retrieve a second keycard. Shadow, consumed by grief, unleashed a Black Hole Orb, and Tails instructed Sonic to open a ring portal for their escape, narrowly avoiding the facility’s destruction. Meanwhile, Eggman and Gerald bonded over various activities on their way to London.
Team Sonic teleported back to the Wachowski House, requesting Tom and Maddie's help in infiltrating G.U.N. HQ. Tails needed them to plant a drive in the security room to override the building’s forcefield, allowing Sonic to access the vault. In London, Team Robotnik observed G.U.N. HQ from a distance. Shadow, impatient for revenge, was calmed by Gerald, who promised unimaginable retribution. Sonic, growing frustrated, waited atop the London Eye while Tails coordinated with the Wachowskis and Knuckles. The disguised Wachowskis infiltrated the HQ, with Maddie impersonating Rockwell to access the security room, where they discovered another drive placed by Eggman and Gerald.
The Robotniks, protected by Spandex suits, navigated the laser hall while Sonic raced through London to stop them, visiting landmarks like Abbey Road, Piccadilly Circus, and Buckingham Palace. Using Tails' help, Sonic bypassed the forcefield by boosting up the Tower Bridge. He reached the disabled laser hall, only for the Robotniks to be stuck in the vault. As Rockwell entered, the room’s gravity shifted, throwing Sonic into the air. Meanwhile, Knuckles crashed through the headquarters from Big Ben. accidentally causing chaos with the gravity. After Sonic rescued Tails and the Wachowskis, Tom apprehended Rockwell, who escaped with the second keycard. Shadow, who mistook Tom for Walters due to the latter's disguise, then severely injures Tom and takes the keycard.
Shadow teleported to the Robotniks, defeated the G.U.N. soldiers, and handed Gerald the keycard. The Robotniks, now in Nanosuits, boarded the Space Colony ARK. Stone, suspicious of their plans, tried to warn Eggman but was fired. The ARK rose from the River Thames, attracting global attention. Sonic, seeking the Master Emerald’s location, learned it was guarded by Wade Whipple back in Green Hills. Sonic took the emerald, broke it into Chaos Emeralds, and transformed into Super Sonic, causing a storm as he flew toward the ARK.
The ARK’s Eclipse Cannon was charging, with Shadow funneling his chaos energy into it, ready to destroy Earth. Gerald explained that Shadow’s actions would obliterate the planet and the ARK. Eggman tried to convince Gerald to rule together, but Gerald rejected him, intent on avenging Maria’s death. Shadow then completed the charging process, vowing justice for Maria.
Super Sonic confronted Shadow on the ARK, leading to an intense battle with the latter soon gaining a super form of his own. After a fierce clash, Super Sonic knocked Super Shadow across Earth, from the Rocky Mountains to Giza. As Eggman tried to stop the cannon, Shadow kicked Super Sonic into Greece. There, he scolded Sonic for abandoning his friends, but Sonic struck him back, sending Shadow crashing to the moon.

On the moon, Sonic’s super form faded as he remembered Tom’s words about not letting pain change him. Shadow, reflecting on his past with Maria, and Sonic, both shared their grievances. Sonic urged Shadow to hold onto Maria’s love, and Shadow realized his mistakes. Forgiving him, Sonic lectured Shadow on the difficulty of making the right choice. Together, they regained their super forms and raced toward the Eclipse Cannon to stop Gerald.
Gerald destroyed the system controlling the fire sequence, sending Eggman falling from the Space Colony ARK. He was saved by Tails and Knuckles, and Eggman launched Gerald into the electric current left by Shadow’s chaos energy, killing him. The Eclipse Cannon fired, with Super Sonic and Super Shadow holding the blast back. Tails and Eggman tried to steer the cannon away from Earth, while the hedgehogs protected the planet. Super Sonic, exhausted, let go of the laser, which missed Earth but cut the moon in half. Losing his super form, Sonic plummeted toward Earth. Tails, with Knuckles’ help, rescued Sonic, though Tails fainted from the strain.
Super Shadow teleported to Eggman, who warned that the ARK’s core was overloading, threatening Earth with radioactive fallout and acid rain. Shadow urged Eggman to stabilize the reactor while he pushed the ARK away. Meanwhile, Knuckles grabbed a ring Tails let go of to teleport them to safety. As Super Shadow remembered his time with Maria, he pushed the ARK further, while Eggman broadcasted a farewell message to Stone in London. The ARK exploded, and Team Sonic landed in the cornfield, reflecting on the sacrifices of Shadow and Eggman. Unbeknownst to them, Shadow survived to retrieve one of his Limiter Rings after the explosion.
Later, after Sonic was forgiven for his recent actions, the team resumed their camping trip with Maddie and a recovered Tom. They also re-raced for Sonic’s Bearthday, with Sonic overshooting the goal and landing in New York State Park. There, a robotic doppelganger of Sonic attacked him. Sonic evaded and punched the robot, only to find himself surrounded by Metal Sonics. Amy Rose appeared, using her Piko Piko Hammer to destroy the robots and reveal herself.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2: The Official Movie Pre-Quill[]
Having settled into the Wachowski house, Sonic would begin speeding around Green Hills to socialize from a distance while hoping for a chance to prove that he had what it took to be a hero. Meanwhile, while out on a trip, Tom and Wade received an all-points bulletin about a bank robbery at the first bank in Walla Walla, Washington, prompting them to head there to provide assistance. Hearing about the same robbery on the news, Sonic headed there to prove himself. At it turned out however, the bank robbers were only looking to retrieve a Robotnik Control Glove and a USB drive containing Dr. Robotnik's manifesto from the bank's safety deposit for Agent Stone. Though Sonic arrived at the bank, an undercover bank robber got him trapped in the vault. Afterward, one of the robbers got the control glove working and summoned Badniks to haul the vault away. Amazed, the robbers decided to keep the control glove. Sonic, however, made the Badniks drop the vault and subdued the robbers, who had the Robotnik Control Glove taken from them by a Badnik Agent Stone took control of. Afterward, Sonic made everyone keep quiet about him. Tom, who had helped take out Badniks on the sidelines, proceeded to arrest the robbers while Sonic headed home.[2]
Meanwhile, Agent Stone obtained the Robotnik Control Glove and Robotnik's manifesto. With these tools at his disposal, Stone got himself a job at Karen's Coffee in Green Hills and began using Robotnik's methods and technology to take it over within a week. Stone was then ready to move into phase two of Robotnik's manifesto.[3]
