"EGGMAN" redirects here. For the character, see Doctor Eggman.

"E.G.G.M.A.N." is the theme of Dr. Eggman for Sonic Adventure 2. This song was written by Paul Shortino.

Legacy[]

A remix of the song, known as the "Doc. Robeatnix Mix", was produced by Lee Brotherton (credited as the Remix Factory) and included in a brief cutscene in Shadow the Hedgehog. It also plays briefly in Sega Superstars Tennis, when Eggman uses his Superstar Move.

An instrumental version can be unlocked in Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing. This theme can be heard several times in Sonic Generations. An instrumental version is also heard when Dr. Eggman unleashes his All-Star Move in Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. The original version of the song is used in Phantasy Star Online 2 as the background music for the "Wild Easter" Emergency Quest, as well as being a collectable music disc for My Room/Team Room background music. The song returns in Team Sonic Racing as Eggman's Team Ultimate theme.

Lyrics[]

Who ooh, ooh, hoo hoo oh yeah!

D-di-da, d-di-da, d-di-da-da-da-da- da-da-n, oh!

N-oh!
The story begins with who's gonna win
Knowin' the danger that lies within
Aboard the ARK a genius at heart
Who wanted to unlock the mysteries of life
I am the Eggman, that's what I am
I am the Eggman, I got the master plan
I am the Eggman, that's what I am
I am the Eggman, with the master plan
I'm plotting my schemes wherever I go
They're perfect in every way
I'd love to destroy the blue one you know
He's an obstacle that always gets in my way
I must play this game by my rules
I will conquer the world with my tools
All my machines are made for destruction
I will build my empire
I will succeed and you will see
With my machines there is no retreat
I am the Eggman, that's what I am
I am the Eggman, I got the master plan
I am the Eggman, that's what I am
I am the Eggman, I got the master plan
I am the enemy, I will succeed
My mission, yeah, I must complete
My name is Eggman, don't forget my name!
If you ask me again, I'll tell you the same
I am the Eggman, that's what I am
I am the Eggman, I got the master plan
I am the Eggman, that's what I am
I am the Eggman, I got the master, master plan
I am the Eggman!

Connection to character[]

  • The story begins, with who's gonna win - Chronologically speaking, the story of Sonic Adventure 2 starts up with Eggman, and he technically succeeds in getting all the Chaos Emeralds for the Eclipse Cannon, at least. Otherwise, it could just be Eggman always believing he can win when history speaks otherwise; that, and he often starts the conflict of the story.
  • Aboard the ARK, a genius at heart, who wanted to unlock the mysteries of life - Eggman's new base on the ARK and his IQ of 300. Also alludes to Eggman's grandfather, Gerald Robotnik, and his research to achieve immortality, which constitutes a core part of the plot of Sonic Adventure 2.
  • I am the Eggman, that's what I am/My name is Eggman, don't forget my name - His name was Robotnik, but he's now embraced the nickname "Eggman" given to him by Sonic.
  • I am the Eggman, I got the master plan - Eggman is always coming up with an evil plan to conquer the world.
  • I'm plotting my schemes wherever I go, they're perfect in every way - A reference to how Eggman always assumes his plans will go off without a hitch.
  • I'd love to destroy the blue one you know - Eggman's desire to destroy Sonic, his arch-enemy.
  • He's an obstacle that always gets in my way - Sonic always foiling Eggman's plans.
  • I must play this game by my rules - Eggman doing whatever it takes for him to accomplish his goals, and will use underhanded tactics.
  • I will conquer the world with my tools - Eggman trying to conquer the world through the use of robots and machines.
  • All my machines are made for destruction - His robots help him in his plans via destructive capabilities.
  • I will build my empire - Eggman's ultimate dream to establish the Eggman Empire across the world.
  • I am the enemy, I will succeed - Eggman's role of being the main enemy in most media of the Sonic the Hedgehog series and his unfailing persistence in his goals.

Trivia[]

  • In Sonic the Hedgehog #205 from the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series published by Archie Comics, Eggman references lines from this song with quotes such as "I'd love to destroy the blue one, you know."
  • Both "E.G.G.M.A.N." and "I am the Walrus" by The Beatles use the same line "I am the Eggman" in the chorus.
    • Interestingly, Jim Carrey who played Dr. Eggman in Sonic The Hedgehog movie covered the Beatles song "I Am The Walrus" for George Martin's 1998 album "In My Life", which features a multitude of famous people covering various songs sung by The Beatles. Carrey even noted this in one of the interviews connected to the movie release.
  • The remix in Shadow the Hedgehog is called the "Doc Robeatnix mix". This is a pun on Eggman's last name "Robotnik".
  • An instrumental version plays in Lego Dimensions when speaking to Eggman in the Sonic the Hedgehog Adventure World, and can be played in other Adventure Worlds via the in-game jukebox.
    • This is also referenced when finishing the Egg Mobile ride, with Eggman starting to sing the chorus of this song.
  • In Sonic the Hedgehog #10, Mr. Tinker (an amnesiac Eggman) sings a song that sound similar to this song.
