E-102, codenamed Gamma, is a character who appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. He was the second unit in the E-100 Series group created by Dr. Eggman. However, he eventually went rogue and began destroying his other E-100 Series "brothers" before ending up destroyed as well.

History

Past

E-102 Gamma was created during the incident involving Chaos, when Dr. Eggman planned to harness the deity's powers. Gamma's and the other E-100 Series robots' purpose was to aid the doctor with his plans. After being awaken in Final Egg and going through some trials, Gamma became a part of the Egg Carrier's crew. Later on, he and his "brothers" were ordered by Eggman to recover Froggy. After doing so in Emerald Coast, he was temporarily sent to the past by Tikal. Afterwards, Eggman gave him another mission: to get Birdie, who was with Amy in one of the Egg Carrier's cells. However, Gamma wound up rescuing the two instead for reasons he did not understand. Soon after, he had a duel against Sonic on the Egg Carrier, but Amy saved him from destruction. After the Egg Carrier then crash-landed, Gamma began a mission to destroy the other E-100 Series models to free the mobini inside of them. After successfully doing so, Gamma exploded from the damage he he had sustained, freeing the bird inside of him.[1][2]

Legacy

Despite Gamma's rampage, apparently, Eggman was not aware of his betrayal. As such, during an incident involving the Space Colony ARK, he produced replicas of Gamma, but with far less sentience.[3][4] Additionally, in an incident that involved Emerl, Eggman produced a near exact replica of Gamma, but more loyal to him and much stronger. The doctor also mass-produced lesser models of this replica, some of which were sold to get some profit from them. However, all of these models were destroyed by Sonic and his friends.[5]

Powers and abilities

Weapons and equipment

Gamma was equipped with a cannon in his right hand, allowing him to shoot deadly projectiles at his opponents.[1]

Variants

E-1000

Main article: E-1000 (Archie)

E-1000 is a mass-produced Badnik copy of Gamma created by Eggman to guard his pyramid base during an incident involving the Space Colony ARK.[3] However, while very powerful, like most other Badniks, these models were nowhere as sentient as the original Gamma was.[4]
