Attack with a drill. Press a button repeatedly for powered up attacks.

— Basic attack description, Sonic Forces manual[1]

The Drill Wispon[1] is an object that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a Wispon that is themed after the Yellow Wisp. The Drill Wispon can be used by Avatar, allowing the character to penetrate through Badniks, as well as excavate through the ground and climb up walls.

Description[]

Appearance[]

Modeled after the Yellow Wisp, the Drill Wispon is a cone-shaped Wispon that is colored yellow with orange strips spiraling through. It also has a hole in the middle of the cone that resembles the Yellow Wisp's eye. The cone itself is attached to a black footing with yellow bars surrounding the gray grip that is attached to the back of the black footing. The grip itself allows the wielder to hold this Wispon in a comfortable position.

Features and abilities[]

As its name implies, the Drill Wispon can use the power of the Yellow Wisp and essentially allow the Avatar to use the power of the Yellow Drill Color Power without transforming into the Color Power. The Drill Wispon can be used as an offensive measure against Badniks.

Like when using an actual Color Power though, the Drill Wispon is activated by the Yellow Wisps' cooperation, meaning it cannot be used by users that the Yellow Wisps do not like.[2]

Overview[]

SFTwitterDrillPromo

The Avatar using the Drill Wispon.

The Drill Wispon allows the user to pierce through enemies, spiralling the user forward to destroy the enemies in front of them. It can also allow the user to climb up walls and tunnel underneath the surface to keep moving forward to the goal. The basic attack of the Drill Wispon is a charge attack with three levels of charge that has the user dash straight ahead at high speed. Care must be taken so that the user does not fly over the edge or into any hazards.

The basic Drill Wispon is unlocked by defeating Infinite in his boss fight in Metropolis. By advancing through the game, the player can unlock different variants of the Drill Wispon. These variants all have the same basic functions, but offer additional skills to the player when equipped:

Rough and Tumble save town

Tumble wielding a Drill Wispon, from Sonic the Hedgehog #3.

Just before the war between the Resistance and the Eggman Empire ended, there were two mercenaries named Rough the Skunk and Tumble the Skunk (who were armed with a Drill Wispon and Burst Wispon respectively) who saved Barricade Town, a town that distributed Drill Wispons, from Dr. Eggman's forces. Once they were let inside Barricade Town however, the mercenaries took over the town and stole all the town's Wispons for themselves, along with the Wisps needed to power them.[3]

After the war, the Drill Wispons in Barricade Town got returned to their owners after Sonic and Knuckles defeated Rough and Tumble.[3]

Trivia[]

  • The Drill Wispon, Lightning Wispon and Cube Wispon are the only three Wispons that allow the Avatar to be immune to any damage when tapping/holding R2/Xbox RT2-1/Switch zr. If the player simply presses the button while any attack appears, the player will not receive any hits.
    • Additionally, it is the only Wispon that allows the player to be immune to Spikes when standing on them. If the player simply holds/taps the button, the Spikes will not inflict damage to the player unless if they let go.
