Features and abilities
The Doomsday Device is perhaps the most destructive weapon seen to date in the Sonic Boom World. As per its purpose, the device can charge up and fire a sphere of powerful and unstable energies set at certain frequencies which can seemingly erase matter over a radius encompassing an entire planet. The device comes equipped with a countdown and cannot be deactivated once it is initiated due to the lack of an off switch.[1]
If a similar machine releases energies vibrating at opposite frequencies at the same as the other Doomsday Device, the two energies will cancel each other out without any ill effects. However, if there is even the slightest power discrepancy between those energies, then the resulting effect will create a reality-destroying black hole.[1]
History
TV series
Season one
An unfinished Doomsday Device of Dr. Eggman's was kept in Eggman's lair. This device would be activated by Dave the Intern in an attempt to prove himself evil. Not wanting to be outdone, Dr. Eggman created another Doomsday Device to compete with Dave's. Picking up the devices' energies, Sonic and Tails tricked Eggman and Dave into calibrating their Doomsday Devices at opposite frequencies in hopes that they would cancel each other out when fired (since turning them off was not possible). However, a small difference in power caused the two Doomsday Devices to create a black hole instead, which Sonic closed with the Reverse Polarizer.[1]
Season two
When Dr. Eggman was in need of money, Orbot suggested he sold his lair's Doomsday Device, but Eggman turned that idea down. Said device was later activated when a Scorpion Bot got knocked into it during a battle between Eggman and Team Sonic. Thankfully, instead of destroying the world, the device only blew up Eggman's lair.[2] During his semester some time after, Professor Kingsford had his class construct a rudimentary Doomsday Device as a class project. However, because Eggman did not get a rubber gasket, the device never became more than a "glorified paperweight".[3]
