Dr. Robotnik was an event-exclusive boss that appeared in Sonic Dash in early 2020 to promote the then-upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog film. In this event, he replaced Eggman and Zazz as the sole boss in the game (besides Bash, another boss that can only be fought with PAC-MAN or Ms. PAC-MAN), though he did make use of Mike Pollock's voice lines.
Robotnik could be fought in any Zone with any character (except PAC-MAN and Ms. PAC-MAN). To trigger the battle, the player had to hit a Spring with an orange screen and a black Eggman Empire symbol on it. A short while after the playable character landed on solid ground, Robotnik would appear in his Eggpod and hover on their left, introducing himself and starting the fight.
Robotnik can be fought in the exact same manner as Eggman, Zazz, Bash, and Dr. Babble albeit the projectiles are somewhat different.
The boss battle was divided into three phases. During the first one, Robotnik would position his Eggpod behind the player and fire Badnik-like missiles from his ship towards the playable character, which the player could avoid by making a well-timed jump or by moving to the sides. After firing a total of nine shots, Robotnik would proceed to the second phase of the fight, in which he would fly ahead of the player, from where he would drop Bombs on the road in different formations. Like with the missiles, the player could avoid the Bombs by moving to the sides or by jumping over them. Once the player approached a section with three Springs, Robotnik would mock the player and fly away.
In the third phase, after touching the Springs, the playable character would be on the air, right behind Robotnik. The player then had to tap the green target reticles that appear, which would make their character attack the Eggpod. After successfully landing three hits, Robotnik would be defeated and the player would receive points. If the player missed a hit though, the doctor would escape without the player receiving points.
Robotnik would get more aggressive the more the player progressed in a single run. While the battles would be much shorter, the doctor would fire his missiles and Bombs at a much faster pace, not giving the player much time to reach. In the third phase, the green targets would also move much faster, increasing the chance the player misses a hit. However, if Robotnik was successfully defeated, the player would be awarded more points.
He was supposed to be a promotion for the film series, but in the events for Sonic the Hedgehog 2, he was not present, though his Badniks were. Neither were present during the Knuckles series event.
His files can be found in Sonic Dash even after his event has ended, and can be brought back using a mod.
