Doctor Robotnik's Fortress is a location that appears in the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog television series. It is Dr. Ivo Robotnik's central base for his plots to take over Mobius.

Description

Appearance and architecture

Dr. Robotnik's Fortress is a gray, multiple-story building on top of a mountain in Mobius. There is also a golden statue of Dr. Robotnik with his fist raised next to the base. The base itself has several windows and entrances. Inside, there are various rooms, such as the laboratory and the main room, where Robotnik usually resides and from which he gives orders to his investigators. The fortress also has a powerful prison block,[2] and the top of the golden statue can be used as an observation tower.[3] Near the fortress, there is also a toll booth.[1]

The interior of the fortress is mostly corridors. Most of the building's rooms are also unknown, as the only room generally shown in the series is the laboratory. However, the fortress also features more casual rooms, such as a kitchen,[4] a bathroom,[3] and at least two bedrooms. There is also a dungeon in the fortress.[5][6]

Defenses and features

Though not shown very often, the entrances of Robotnik's fortress feature several simple traps.[7] The Super Special Sonic Search and Smash Squad also patrol and guard the fortress while they are not attacking Sonic. The fortress' walls are also known for being very fragile, as Momma Robotnik can destroy them with no problem.[1][8]

History

TV series

Past

Built over a couple of decades ago. Dr. Ivo Robotnik would keep his old classmate Lucas trapped in the fortress's dungeon.[5] Dr. Robotnik's fortress was also the place where the doctor would built many of his creations, including his robots Scratch and Grounder.[9]

Season one

In the present day, Dr. Robotnik built many of his creations in his fortress, including his Egg-O-Matic Tunnelizer and Town Terrorizer[10] and the Subatomic Slow-go Beam Weapon.[11] At some point, Sonic visited the fortress after his friend Tails mysteriously disappeared.[7] The fortress would also be briefly visited by Dr. Robotnik's mother, Momma Robotnik, during her birthday.[1]

Games

Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine

In the 16-bit version and 8-bit version of Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, Dr. Robotnik built the Mean Bean-Steaming Machine inside his fortress, a machine made to roboticize Beans in an effort to rid Mobius of fun and music forever. However, a Bean called Has Bean managed to destroy the machine. While Has Bean's friends celebrated in the fortress, Robotnik was forced to escape.

Trivia

  • Dr. Robotnik's Fortress is not seen in "Sonic Christmas Blast"; instead, Dr. Robotnik resides in the city of Robotropolis.
  • In the 16-bit version of Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, Dr. Robotnik's fortress is seen in the background during the characters' cutscenes and the credits of the game. While it looks like it did in Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, it lacks the golden Robotnik statue next to it.
  • Despite the building itself being called a fortress, it is generally referred to as Robotnik's home; the doctor himself has referred the fortress as his home once.[8]
