Origin (Stay Sonic)[]

Originally, Robotnik was Dr. Ovi Kintobor, a kind-hearted, yet absent minded and clumsy scientist who resolved to defeat all the evil in Mobius, setting up an underground laboratory in the Green Hill Zone and using his invention the Retro-Orbital Chaos Compressor (ROCC) to slowly gather all the evil on Mobius using the Chaos Emeralds to contain it.

During one of his research days, a young brown hedgehog named Sonic stumbled across his lab by complete accident. Kintobor quickly became friends with Sonic, and created a pair of friction-reducing trainers for Sonic to allow him to speed up without wearing out his shoes, albeit accidentally turning him blue in the process of a treadmill session.

A couple months after meeting, Kintobor went to his fridge for a quick snack, but found only one rotten egg. With the egg in his hand, Kintobor went back to the ROCC — but Sonic distracted him and made Kintobor miskeyed some numbers without realising, overloading the ROCC and the machine exploded, with the evil-storing Chaos Emeralds and their chaos energy bathing Kintobor and the egg and making him transform into the obese and evil Dr. Robotnik.

Robotnik, lacking Kintobor's memories, began his goal to conquer Mobius and hid the Chaos Emeralds in the Warps of Confusion The ROCC's explosion scatters the Rings across Mobius. Robotnik hides the six Chaos Emeralds within "psychadelic Warps of Confusion", so Sonic would never find them.[1]

Early Attempts[]

Robotnik would begin his first attempt similar to the first game, going around zones across Mobius and transforming them into his demented vision. Sonic would however, fight back against Robotnik and score a victory against him. With Robotnik going into hiding afterwards.

However, Robotnik struck back with a vengeance, as he would begin work on his most devious creation, the Death Egg, a powerful device that was capable of destruction to apocalyptic proportions and could suck up animals into space with a giant tractor beam that he used on its construction in an underground factory. Learning from his mistakes the last time Sonic defeated him, constructing another set of zones and luring Sonic with Prison Eggs holding the hedgehog's friends so he can attack him with his newly upgraded Egg-O-Matic. As always, Sonic (with the help of his new friend Tails) stop Robotnik and his plans and destroy the Death Egg. After which Robotnik would hide again and find new ways to defeat Sonic.[2]

Trivia[]

  • In Stay Sonic, it was confirmed that Dr. Robotnik was originally Ovi Kintobor and this detail was brought up in Metal City Mayhem and Zone Rangers. However, starting from Sonic vs. Zonik onwards, Robotnik originally being Kintobor is never brought up again. It's possibly this is down to the books switching writers frequently and
