Dr. Eggman and his floating chair in . Sonic Unleashed
Dr. Eggman owns a floating chair that is first seen in , and later in two cutscenes of Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) and also makes another appearance in Sonic Unleashed .
It is a stylistic white chair with red chair padding and armrests with small hand pads. The most obvious feature is its lack of a footset, enabling it to float in the air. It is shown that Eggman is able to move anywhere he wants with his chair, although it is not known how he is able to do this. In
Sonic Colors, it is also shown to be able to move back to its original place like a boomerang after Eggman kicks it to bounce around the room (though it was intended for comical purposes).
Sonic Unleashed, Dr. Eggman's chair is seen at the front of the navigation bridge of Eggman's unnamed hideout, where the doctor can see the construction status of Eggmanland. The floating chair is once again seen in two cutscenes of Sonic Colors with minor changes. This time it is located in the main computer room deep inside the doctor's interstellar amusement park, where the computer displays status reports for the giant Mind Control Cannon. After the mind control cannon explodes and Eggman nevertheless decides to crush Sonic, he rises to the upper tunnel section in his Nega-Wisp Armor with his chair. The chair has not been seen since then and was possibly destroyed along with the amusement park.
The concept artwork showing Eggman with similar chair.
Many years before Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Colors, a similar floating chair is featured in one of the pieces of concept art that originated during the production of , which was later made available as unlockable content in Sonic the Hedgehog CD . Dubbed as the VCCI-811 "President's chair" in concept, it is possible that this chair would have worked as a boss vehicle or something similar that Eggman may have used as a replacement for his Sonic Generations Egg Mobile.
The chair could be a loose combination of the real-life Tulip and Egg chair models, as Eggman's chair possesses the same color scheme as the Tulip model and the same shape as the Egg model.
Other incarnations of Doctor Robotnik are known to have their own chairs, even though most of them are used very temporarily. Robotnik from is seen to have one below the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog S.S.S.S.S. Squad logo in the episode " Boogey-Mania". Another one, more heavily armed and colored green, is used many times by Robotnik in the animated series and Archie Comics.
Dr. Eggman is seen sitting on the same chair from games in Sonic Universe issue 76.
