Dinosaurs are ancient reptiles that are extinct in the real world. Dinosaurs and the related pterosaurs, have appeared in the various continuities of the Sonic the Hedgehog series in some form at least once.
Game appearances[]
The Rexon badnik in Sonic the Hedgehog 2's Hill Top Zone resembles a Plesiosaur. Furthermore, Sonic 2's version of Hidden Palace Zone also contains Redz, a badnik (resembling a Tyrannosaurus rex) and Stegway (a badnik resembling a Triceratops).
Gon, from the Game Gear game Tails' Skypatrol also resembles a Tyrannosaurus rex.
In Sonic and the Secret Rings, dinosaurs appear in abundance in Dinosaur Jungle, the second World. All of the dinosaur species featured in the stage include Triceratops, Parasaurolophus, Tyrannosaurus rex, Pteranodon, Stegosaurus, Apatosaurus and Allosaurus.[1]
Additionally in Sonic Rush Adventure, one of the many decorations Sonic and Blaze can get for Southern Island is an Apatosaurus.

Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog[]
Three famous dinosaur species called: Brontosaurus, T-Rex and Pterodactyl appeared in the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog episode "Prehistoric Sonic" there only two of them where roboticized by Robotnik's Robot-Transmogrifier Ray.
Sonic the Hedgehog (TV series)[]
A race of quadrupedal dinosaur-like creatures known as Terapods appear in the Sonic the Hedgehog television series episode "Sonic Past Cool".
Sonic Underground[]
In Sonic Underground, Knuckles kept a dinosaur named Chomps as a pet.
Sonic X[]
In the anime series Sonic X, a mechanical Tyrannosaurus rex was used for a film scene at Filmdom City although when Dr. Eggman chased Sonic into the scene, the doctor crashed against it, causing its head to attach itself to Eggman's Egg Mobile.
The Metarex Pterano is also a character that appears in the anime. It was a model of Metarex with a pterodactyl-like design. Additionally all male members of Cosmo's species have dinosaur-like forms that can turn into for a short time. This is known as Mover Mode.
Sonic Boom[]
In the Sonic Boom television series' episode, "Mech Suits Me", Tails, Amy, Sticks and Knuckles discovered a cave with markings made by the Ancients. There, they found some interesting things. Sticks herself found a Triceratops skull.

Archie Comics[]
Dinosaur-like creatures known as Mobosaurs were the first Mobian species to evolve after the Xorda's destructive attack on the planet. The Mobosaurs were wiped out during the Coming of the Chaos Emeralds, with only three surviving: the Ancient Walkers.[2][3][4]
Sonic the Comic[]
Sonic the Comic features the largest appearance of dinosaurs in the Sonic series so far.
The most often seen dinosaur species were the Kohenyu, who were unintentionally hunted to extinction by the Ancient Echidnas. The remains of the Kohenyu reside in the Kohenyu Graveyard, where the Spirit of the Herd is kept "alive" by the Soul Crystal.[5]
In the present day, the inhabitants of the Great Mobian Prairie raised a herd of pterodactyls.[6]
The lizard Society Max, partner of Mighty's father Blockhead Bill, can turn into a giant red dinosaur by eating a Mandrake Root.[7]
Doctor Robotnik also modeled the designs of the Badniks Mekanik and Rexon after the dinosaurs.
During a series of time-and-dimensional travels with the Ring of Eternity, Amy Rose and Tekno the Canary discovered that life on several worlds, Mobius included, was created by a race of dinosaurs in spacesuits.[8]
Film[]
Paramount[]
In the Sonic the Hedgehog film series produced by Paramount Pictures and its spin-offs, a Tyrannosaurus Rex is briefly seen in Dr. Robotnik's virtual reality device in his lab and Robotnik pretends that he is running away from the dinosaur. A toy dinosaur was also briefly seen in Sonic’s tablet drawer right after he stopped a bank robbery in Seattle.
