The Zone is set in a large glacier in the cold peaks, composed of ice walls covered in snow everywhere but the walking ground. The Zone features the classic pine trees with their green leaves frost, and streams of snow go downhill, dividing the terrain. Explosive snowmen adorn the main path.
As with the other Zones in this game, Diamond Dust Zone consists of two standard Acts followed by a third Act containing only the boss fight. In Acts 1 and 2, Sonic must free captured Flickies inside Badniks, depositing five of the birds into a Goal Ring to progress between sections of the Zone (usually three per Act). This Zone is filled with snow blowers that can freeze Sonic, which doesn't damage him, but forces him to jump a few times to break himself free. There are also rivers of slush that Sonic can walk one, but lead to frozen spikes, as well as frozen crystal that he can break by spinning, but still hurt him if he touches them. Geographically, the Zone is located on Flicky Island, presumably on the outer slopes of its volcano, considering the next Zone.

Did you bring your Sonic snowboard? The snowy mountains of Flicky Island are filled with icy snowblowers, frozen paths and rivers of slush. The occasional snowfall doesn't even faze Sonic, but watch out for snow-spitting snowmen and uncover snowy Springs to make your way through this Zone.

— Description, Sonic 3D Blast manual[1]

Diamond Dust Zone is the fourth Zone of Sonic 3D Blast for the Sega Mega Drive and Sega Saturn.

Description

The Zone is set in a large glacier in the cold peaks, composed of ice walls covered in snow everywhere but the walking ground. The Zone features the classic pine trees with their green leaves frost, and streams of snow go downhill, dividing the terrain. Explosive snowmen adorn the main path.

Story

Continuing on his quest to liberating the Flickies from Dr. Robotnik's grasp, Sonic reaches the icy plains and slopes of Diamond Dust Zone.

Gameplay

As with the other Zones in this game, Diamond Dust Zone consists of two standard Acts followed by a third Act containing only the boss fight. In Acts 1 and 2, Sonic must free captured Flickies inside Badniks, depositing five of the birds into a Goal Ring to progress between sections of the Zone (usually three per Act). This Zone is filled with snowblowers that can freeze Sonic. There are also rivers of slush that Sonic can walk one, but lead to frozen spikes, as well as frozen crystal that he can break by spinning, but still hurt him if he touches them.

Overview

Act 1

Starts off with a huge, one-way slide, then traversing past exploding snowman into a huge drop into the lower snow-covered plains. Past the first avalanche, the Badniks begin to appear.

Act 2

Act 3

Sonic reaches a rather square shaped room containing only eight Rings and faces off against Dr. Robotnik (see Boss below).

The boss of Diamond Dust Zone

In keeping with the icy theme, Dr. Robotnik has augmented his Egg Mobile with eight freezing-gas pods he has dotted around the Zone. Robotnik begins as usual, hovering tantalizingly above Sonic's reach, but he'll soon swoop down and attempt to blast the hedgehog with a jet of cryogenic vapor. The nozzles fire cyclically, so the player must land a hit on Robotnik when the wave of chilling gas is on the other side of his vehicle. To spice things up a bit, Robotnik occasionally drops exploding snowmen onto the battlefield.
