A Devil Watcher! It can't be -- They're just the stuff of fairytales! Real or not, I don't plan on being this guy's lunch!

Knuckles the Echidna, from Sonic Live!.

The Devil Watcher is a creature that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. The creature are summoned by Merlin Prower as he channelled thoughts into power using Chaos Energy.[2][3]

Description[]

Anatomy[]

The Devil Watcher is a fictional, storybook monster. The creature has the body structure of a purple ball with green spots on top. It has one, red pupil eye ball with a giant mouth containing large, jagged teeth and a blue tongue.

Further information about the creature are left unknown.

History[]

Past[]

The Devil Watcher's past, and the stories they are told in, are unknown. According to Knuckles the Echidna, its a fictional being that seemed to have originated in folktales to entertain children.[1] The creature are known to the young Echidna to be exclusive in Mobian storybooks.

Interestingly, the stories of the Devil Watcher seem to originate far, far back in the past predating the Floating Island, as Merlin Prower seemed to have grown up on their stories and Knuckles could have only been told of those tales by his parents, Locke and Lara-Le. The Brotherhood of Guardians were well known to keep outsiders away from the Floating Island's echidna population for generations for any folklore to pass through.

Knuckles' Quest, Part Two[]

On his quest to find the King's Sword of Acorns, Knuckles encountered a single Devil Watcher at Merlin Prower's front door in a remote section of the Great Forest. He remarked in disbelief upon its status as a creature of myth but Knuckles didn't pause for long and quickly defeated the creature. This caused it to apparently "die", dissolving into a grayish mist.

Merlin Prower soon revealed that the Devil Watcher had been summoned by him as one of the ways to protect himself as a charlatan.[1]
