Devil Doom

The time has come, Shadow.
Agreed. Time to sever this bond between us forever.

Black Doom and Shadow the Hedgehog, Shadow Generations

Devil Doom is the fourth and final boss of Shadow Generations. Here, Shadow fights Devil Doom, who made his debut as the final boss of Shadow the Hedgehog, in the distorted Doom Zone of Radical Highway inside the Black Moon. After depleting his health meter for the first time, Devil Doom evolves into Neo Devil Doom, a brand new form.

Boss guide[]

Devil Doom[]

First phase[]

Because it take place inside a Doom Zone, Chaos Control is unavailable for the entire battle with Devil Doom. The first phase occurs on a circuit of roads flooded with water, forcing Shadow to use Doom Surf. Devil Doom teleports close to Shadow and roars, then flies back to attack from afar. He attacks by sending "cells" at Shadow that project lasers. These cells can be knocked back at Devil Doom using Doom Surf's Spin Attack to deal some damage, and there are Trick Jump Panels with Rainbow Rings that allow Shadow to close the distance and hit Devil Doom's eye with Doom Blast barrages, similar to the fight with Metal Overlord.

Second phase[]

Devil Doom's second phase, in Shadow Generations.

Once Devil Doom's Health Gauge is depleted halfway, he opens a portal to a cluster of platforms and then switches heads. Shadow now must rely on Doom Morph to close the distance by platforming across Corruption and Morph Balls, finally using Dash Rings to again attack Devil Doom with Doom Blast. In this phase, Devil Doom has two attacks: when Shadow is afar, he spews a giant laser from his mouth, and once Shadow is closer, he hurls giant fireballs at him. These attacks are both capable of destroying platforms, though they eventually regenerate. After each successful Doom Blast, Shadow is knocked back to a starting point further away. Three completed attacks are required to deplete the rest of Devil Doom's health.

Neo Devil Doom[]

Once Devil Doom's health is depleted, he destroys the platforms and becomes Neo Devil Doom, gaining a new Health Gauge. Shadow activates Doom Wing, letting him freely fly horizontally and vertically around the screen. Shadow's Ring count is also restored to 100, and like general usage, Ring count decreases by one per second. If his Ring count hits zero, Doom Wing deactivates and Shadow falls, restarting the phase.

Shadow Generations Neo Devil Doom Worm Attack

Neo Devil Doom's blue projectiles, in Shadow Generations.

The battle still revolves around closing distance to hit Neo Devil Doom's eye with Doom Blast, and his attacks follow a set pattern. His first attack is to arrange colored walls together, forming massive blockades that Shadow must navigate; he periodically performs this move throughout the battle. Neo Devil Doom then attacks by launching blue worm-like projectiles from his lower eye. Like the cells before, Shadow can use Doom Wing's Spin Attack to reflect these blue projectiles back at him, which deals damage but also gradually stuns him so Shadow can Boost closer and attack the lower eye with a Doom Blast rush.

Neo Devil Doom's next attack is a swipe with the horn of his tail head. The first time he does one horizontal swipe, the second time is two horizontal swipes, and the third time is one vertical swipe and then two horizontal. If this hits Shadow, he teleports to strike him multiple times, slowing him down greatly. After the third variation, the tail head becomes exhausted, allowing Shadow to attack it. If the Doom Blast button is held instead of mashed, Shadow can launch the head away, punching it around multiple times before knocking it back into the rest of Neo Devil Doom's body, dealing huge damage and causing him to roar angrily.

Neo Devil Doom's final attack is to create a tunnel of dark energy, which pulls Shadow in and forces him to fly through it, knocking him around if he touches the edges. Shadow can Boost through this tunnel to close in and attack the main head with a Doom Blast rush. He performs this move twice, arranging barricades between, before returning to the beginning of his pattern and looping.

Fully depleting Neo Devil Doom's health triggers a cutscene with two Real-Time Interactions. The first occurs when Neo Devil Doom traps Shadow in Chaos Control, upon which Shadow can activate his own Chaos Control to nullify it. The second is when Shadow clashes with Neo Devil Doom's tail head, mashing a button to overpower it and strike Neo Devil Doom with an explosive kick to the face. This triggers the final cutscene, where Neo Devil Doom fails to capture Shadow, who finishes the fight with a barrage of giant Doom Spears and a punch through his chest that causes him to explode.

Checkpoints[]

There are four checkpoints in this boss battle. One for the start of each Doom Morph courses, and one final at the start of the fight against Neo Devil Doom.

Time Borders[]

As Rings no longer participates in the score tally in all of the Boss Battles in Shadow Generations, here are the time requirements to gain sufficient Time Bonus for each Rank:

Rank Time
S Rank (Sonic Generations Console)
4:16.66
A Rank (Sonic Generations Console)
5:07.94
B Rank (Sonic Generations Console)
5:59.23
C Rank (Sonic Generations Console)
7:16.15
D Rank (Sonic Generations Console)

Music[]

The Devil Doom phase features a remix of the Black Doom boss fight from Shadow the Hedgehog, while the Neo Devil Doom phase features an orchestral remix of Crush 40's version of "All Hail Shadow", from Sonic the Hedgehog (2006).

Trivia[]

  • This is the only boss fight in Shadow Generations which:
    • Does not have a Hard Mode counterpart.
    • Is accessed through a Stage Gate and thus does not need to be unlocked with Boss Gate Keys.
    • Has the name of the boss already revealed in the loading screen on the first playthrough.
    • Has Chaos Control disabled.
  • The final scene of the battle, where Shadow erratically zig-zags before striking Neo Devil Doom, is visually similar to Super Sonic Cyber's use of Wild Rush to defeat The End in Sonic Frontiers - The Final Horizon.
