"Designated Heroes" is the forty-eighth episode in the Sonic Boom television series. It first aired on 6 September 2015 in France and on 17 October 2015 in the United States.

Synopsis

The gang accepts a dare from Dr. Eggman to fight him not as a group but one at a time. Eggman uses each hero's weakness to his advantage.

Appearances

Plot

Dr. Eggman, Orbot and Cubot are robbing a toy factory in hopes of demoralizing the Village when Team Sonic shows up, attracted by Eggman's noisy vacuum gadget on the Eggmobile. Working together, the team quickly destroy Eggman's Ball Bots and trap the villains in glue. Eggman complains that their being five-against-one is unfair, so the heroes agree to try fighting Eggman one-on-one next time.

Eggman then later arrives, easily manipulating Team Sonic by appealing to each of their personality traits. He cons Amy out of her piko hammer by claiming to use it for a charitable cause, humors Sticks's paranoia for her cage, compliments Tails' new force field device dubbed the "MX-4180 Electroplasmatic Capsulator" to use it against him and tricks Knuckles into digging away from the fight with his gullibility after making a sheet of metal into a paper airplane. Later, at Meh Burger, an unimpressed Sonic laughs at his pals failure before heading off on his turn to fight Eggman.

In the badlands, Sonic waits impatiently for Eggman to show, making funny noises and holding a tea party. The rest of the team arrives to go to the beach while Sonic stays on-guard, thinking Eggman is too scared to fight him. Sonic soon naps and Eggman captures him using a contraption made with the stolen items from the others. Sonic's friends soon show up, but are still honor-bound to fight one-on-one. They do so, but switch out as needed instead of sticking of a schedule, allowing them to retrieve the piko hammer, free Sonic and trap Eggman in a force-field reinforced cage. Amy comments on their teamwork, but when Sonic snarks that he still got the last hit in, the others leave him in the cage with Eggman.

Trivia

  • The toy-and-game factory Eggman attacked uses the same model as the DangerCo Deadly Equipment Warehouse.
  • Sticks' cage is the same one seen in "Late Fees".
  • Despite Sticks taking off her shoes, her feet are never shown. This was possibly done to avoid animating them.
    • However early development footage actually shows her with her boots off.[2]
