The Death Egg Robot sentinel is a character that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by IDW Publishing. It is a giant, mass-produced Super Badnik variant of the Death Egg Robot created by Dr. Eggman that serves the Eggman Empire.

The Death Egg Robot sentinels are designed after the original Death Egg Robot, but several times larger, being over three times the size of an apartment building. They have egg-shaped bodies with a narrow pelvis each, stubby and heavily armored legs, thin arms with cone-like forearms, thick gauntlets, cap-shaped shoulders attached to bars rather than sockets, three straight spikes for fingers and jet packs on their backs. They also have triangular markings on their chest and dome-shaped heads. The faces of the Death Egg Robot sentinels are also almost blank, with the exception of a single red eye and a red field for a mouth. They are also completely gray and black with glowing red outlines.

Eggman War and aftermath

When the Eggman War began, Death Egg Robot sentinels would be used by the Eggman Empire's army. Early on during the war, a Death Egg Robot sentinel arrived in Sunset City and tore the place up.[2]

After the mercenary duo Rough and Tumble liberated Barricade Town from Badniks and subsequently conquered it for themselves near the end of the Eggman War, Death Egg Robot sentinels and Egg Pawns began stalking Barricade Town, thus keeping the locals from leaving their town.[1]

After Sonic the Hedgehog thwarted Dr. Eggman at the end of the Eggman War, the Doctor disappeared while the Death Egg Robot sentinels and the rest of his robot army remained. Without a leader however, the Death Egg Robot sentinels were directionless and no longer a unified threat.[3] Even so, they would still randomly attack anyone they came across[3][4] (although such incidents were more accidental than aggression-based[3]).

Eventually, the Death Egg Robot sentinels came under the control of Neo Metal Sonic, who made them and their fellow robots more cohesive.[3][5] Not long after, Knuckles the Echidna destroyed a Death Egg Robot sentinel stalking Barricade Town. The other one, as well as the previously seen Egg Pawns seemed to be absent however.[1]

Basically, the Death Egg Robot sentinels are mindless and silent drones programmed to follow their leader's every command. As such, when left without a leader to follow, they become directionless and only able to cause harm by accident.[3] Under a guiding force however, they are cold and merciless machines who carry out their commands without question.[1]

Powers and abilities

Thanks to their size, the Death Egg Robot sentinels possess incredible strength, enough to smash an apartment building with just one strike.[2]
