Appearance[]

The Death Egg Robots are designed after the original mech, though these Death Egg Robots are fully autonomous and are around the size of "a small mountain."[3] They have egg-shaped bodies with a narrow pelvis each, stubby and heavily armored legs, thin arms with cone-like forearms, thick gauntlets, cap-shaped shoulders attached to bars rather than sockets, a trio of straight spikes for fingers and jet packs on their backs. They also have triangular markings on their chest (which are similar to those on Eggman's original jacket) and dome-shaped heads. Unlike the original robot though, the faces of these Death Egg Robots are almost blank, with the exception of a lone red eye and a matching field for a mouth. They are also completely gray and black with glowing red outlines.

Shadow Generations[]

ShadowGenerationsSunsetHeights

Shadow evading several Death Egg Robots in Sunset Heights Act 1, from Shadow Generations.

The mass-produced Death Egg Robots reappear in Shadow Generations, appearing as enemies in Sunset Heights with a similar role as before.

In Act 1, the Death Egg Robots throw some debris at Shadow from a distance, though he can use Chaos Control to destroy some of them with a Homing Attack. After crossing the destroyed red bridge, Shadow will evade three of the Death Egg Robots by grinding on their arms and avoiding the last one as it shoots its lasers eyes at him before falling into an underground tunnel. In Act 2, they attack Shadow by shooting their eye lasers on the platforms he is standing on, causing them to be destroyed. After exiting the underground sewer, the last Death Egg Robot will attack Shadow by extending their arms like a drill, though their arms can be used as platforms when performing Chaos Control. It is also possible to attack the Death Egg Robot's arm with the Doom Blast like the Black Arms when using Chaos Control, which causes the arm of the robot to be knocked off.

A defunct Death Egg Robot can also be seen in the beginning of Chaos Island Act 1.

Team Sonic Racing[]

In Team Sonic Racing, a Death Egg Robot appears along the Frozen Junkyard racetrack. Here, it is embedded in a huge glacier. Every now and then however, it will shoot two laser beams from its eyes down on the road below. These lasers will then move along two of out six orange-glowing lines that are burned into the road; if the player touches these lasers, they will take damage and spin out temporarily. Should the player make it past these lasers, the players will jump into the loop contained within the Death Egg Robot. After passing through this loop, the player will then reach the finish line.

Besides Frozen Junkyard, a Death Egg Robot also appears on the Dark Arsenal racetrack. This robot appears in the center of the track and is under construction. Under its arms are two Bumper-based trampolines that the player can use to take a shortcut. However, the player has to watch out for the burners that occasionally ignite under the Death Egg Robot's arms, which can knock the racers into the abyss.

Sonic Forces[]

In Sonic Forces, the Death Egg Robots became a staple in Dr. Eggman's army after he conquered over ninety-nine percent of the world. In this game, these robots appear in the background of the City stages, they can be seen fighting the Resistance's forces and devastating the area. The destroyed remains of Death Egg Robots can also be seen in Lost Valley.

At different points in the story, the characters will be fighting the Death Egg Robots so that the player can focus on reaching the goal. One of these points is at the beginning of Red Gate Bridge, where a Death Egg Robot tries to attack Sonic and the Avatar, destroying the bridge that they are trying to cross. During the subsequent sequence that plays, the duo will land on a ledge, face to face with the robot. By completing the first Real-Time Interaction here, the Avatar will swing the hedgehog and themselves away from the robot using their grappling hook as it punches the ledge. The heroes will then swing around the robot while it fires its eye laser. Once they are in front of the Death Egg Robot's eye, the player must complete another Real-Time Interaction. Sonic and the Avatar will then charge their respective Spin Attacks and shoot through the giant machine's eye and head, destroying it.

Sonic Frontiers[]

A Death Egg Robot... trashed? That's unsettling.

In Sonic Frontiers, one of the mass-produced Death Egg Robots was deployed on Chaos Island as part of Eggman's invasion of the Starfall Islands, where it was immediately taken out by the Ancients' robots[7] and left deactivated and partially buried in the ground.[5] Eventually, by Tails' request, Sonic used a nearby control panel to get the titanic robot to fire its laser towards the ground in front of it, creating a cave that revealed a secret pathway underground.

Other game appearances[]

Sonic Speed Simulator[]

In Sonic Speed Simulator, a broken Death Egg Robot appears as an inanimate object found in the Lost Valley world.

Powers and abilities[]

Due to their sheer size, the Death Egg Robots are incredibly strong and tough; even when directionless,[3] to a point that these Badniks can give even Sonic a tough time to defeat.[5] They can single-handedly topple buildings with ease and withstand a barrage of shots from a number of laser artillery turrets being fired on it from various angles by Resistance forces.[1] They can also fire powerful lasers from their eye,[8] which can create massive trenches with ease.

Weaknesses[]

The Death Egg Robots' eye sensors are weak to direct hits, which Sonic and the Avatar exploited during their encounter with one of them at Red Gate Bridge.

Variants[]

Eggman War and aftermath[]

Death Egg Robot sentinels and Egg Pawns

The Death Egg Robots (colored orange) and Egg Pawns stalking Barricade Town, from Sonic the Hedgehog #3.

When the Eggman War began, the Death Egg Robots would be used by the Eggman Empire's army. Early on during the war, at least one Death Egg Robot arrived in Sunset City and tore the place up.[9]

After the mercenary duo Rough and Tumble liberated Barricade Town from the Badnik Horde and subsequently conquered it for themselves near the end of the Eggman War, some Death Egg Robots and Egg Pawns began stalking Barricade Town, thus keeping the locals from leaving their town.[10]

After Sonic thwarted Dr. Eggman at the end of the Eggman War, the doctor disappeared while the Death Egg Robots and the rest of his robot army remained. Without a leader however, these machines were directionless and no longer a unified threat.[11] Even so, they would still randomly attack anyone they came across[11][12] (although such incidents were more accidental than aggression-based).[11]

Fallout[]

Eventually, the Death Egg Robots came under the control of Neo Metal Sonic, who made them and their fellow robots more cohesive.[11][13] Not long after, Knuckles destroyed a Death Egg Robot stalking Barricade Town.[10]

Trivia[]

  • The mass-produced Death Egg Robots are referred to as the "Mark II" (マーク2 Makku Tsū?) in Sonic Forces's original soundtrack.[4]
