Covers of the two volumes of the Dash & Spin manga

Dash & Spin: Chōsoku Sonic (ダッシュ&スピン 超速ソニック Dasshu ando Supin: Chōsoku Sonikku?, lit. "Dash & Spin: Super Fast Sonic") is a manga series written and illustrated by Santa Harukaze (春風邪三太). It was originally serialized in the Japanese manga magazine Bessatsu CoroCoro Comic Special published by Shogakukan, then collected in two tankōbon (volumes), both of which are now out of print.[1]

Content

Volume 1 was published in July 2003 and contains nine stories and some short yonkoma strips. Volume 2 was published in February 2005 and contains ten stories and some short yonkoma strips. Both volumes have 192 black and white pages, 17.5 cm by 11.5 cm. They are all in Japanese with furigana to help with the kanji.[2]

The stories are generally self-contained and light-hearted, with little to no connections to the game continuity (although there are occasional references to previously released games, such as Sonic Adventure 2). Despite this, they feature several characters from the games, including Sonic the Hedgehog, Miles "Tails" Prower, Knuckles the Echidna, Amy Rose, Dr. Eggman, Shadow the Hedgehog and Chao. They feature a lot of slapstick humor and foul language.[3]

The series was never published outside Japan or in any language other than Japanese. Nevertheless, some scans have been uploaded to the internet and certain stories have been translated by fans.

Trivia

  • Despite the manga being aimed for children, there is a large amount of teen/adult content in it, such as foul language (especially by Eggman, Sonic, and Knuckles), blood which comes out of Eggman when Sonic hurts him, and crude humor (for example in chapter 3 when Sonic says to Knuckles "Were you taking a dump inside that pyramid?" and he replies "You idiot! I was exploring it!").
