The Darkinator is an object that appears in the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog television series. It is a device shaped like a vacuum cleaner, created and sold by Handy Dandy Super Villain Appliance Distributors Limited Company as one of their major super-villainy products.
Description[]
The Darkinator generates a shroud of absolute darkness over a large area. The user is vulnerable to this as well but H.D.S.V.A.D.L. are known to throw in infra-red goggles to their buyers. In the episode "Birth of a Salesman", Robotnik bought a Darkinator from Wes Weasely and sent Scratch and Grounder to capture Sonic with it. The two robots were too incompetent to remember to put on their goggles before activating the Darkinator and ended up being blinded themselves. After crawling beneath the Darkinator's shroud and tying Scratch and Grounder together with a rope, Sonic tricked them into thinking they were in a no-parking zone. Attempting to flee, Scratch and Grounder fell over each other and smashed themselves and the Darkinator to pieces.
A Darkinator was soon afterwards used as a component of the Super Stupendous Tremendous Horrendous Hedgehog-Catching Vanquisher.
Robotnik used the Darkinator again in the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog episode, "Robotnik's Rival". In this iteration, the Darkinator can now turn everything completely dark instead of from the knee up, however you can still see eyes. Professor Quark uses his Solar Molar which he uses to see Sonic and shoot him, accidentally hitting the Darkinator and causing an explosion. Whether this is the old Darkinator repaired or not is never stated.
