Dark Gaia is a character that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. It is a malevolent deity residing beneath the surface of Sonic's World which instigates corruption and the supposed destruction of the world. It supposedly has a connection to the event where the planet shatters every ten thousandth year, the most recent being the Shattered World Crisis.[1]
Powers and abilities
Dark Gaia is capable of exerting its essence as a form of dark energy. This energy is highly dangerous, corruptive and has incredible mutagenic properties, capable of causing a total cellular re-write,[1] and can as well create monsters composed entirely of it,[2] block spirits like Tikal and turn hearts cruel.[3]
Trivia
- Dark Gaia was first mentioned in the Archie Comics in Sonic the Hedgehog #197, though it did not make an appearance and was only referred to as "it"; this is likely because the story in which it was featured was merely a promo for Sonic Unleashed. It was first in Sonic the Hedgehog #259 that Dark Gaia made an appearance in the Archie Comics as an illustration in the Gaia Manuscripts.
