Description

Anatomy

Dark Chao are small creatures with pudding-like bodies. In general, Dark Chao have round, waterdrop-like heads with large eyes but no noses, round torsos smaller than their heads, smooth feet with no legs, and arms with no visible hands. Neither their arms or feet have digits. They also have a short tail, small wings, and a floating dot above their heads.

While Dark Chao can have various looks and features (Clutch's Dark Chao for example has red-striped quills and spikes that make them look similar to Shadow[1]), the general Dark Chao have a dark red-black skin color with magenta and violet tips on their hands and feet, and their wings resemble bat/devil wings. They also have a light pink mark in the shape of a crescent moon on top of their chests (similar to Knuckles'), and the dot above their heads is pink and spiky. Their eyes are also white with blue sclerae, and the point of their heads is slightly zig-zagged. Lastly, they possess wide smiles with sharp teeth and pointy tails.

Characteristics and culture

Dark Chao are generally more mischievous and hostile than the basic Chao. being perfectly willing to attack their opponents.[1] Also, in terms of biology, all Dark Chao are by default genderless.[2] Nonetheless, they are still pure and child-like beings, much like any other Chao.[3][4]

Like other Chao, Dark Chao have a very distinct form of communication: their emotion-dot. The emotion-dot, which floats above a Dark Chao's head will change shape depending on what it thinks or feels. It can for example become an exclamation point when the Dark Chao is surprised[1] or a heart when the Dark Chao is happy.[4]

Powers and abilities

Thanks to their wings, the Dark Chao are capable of flight.[1]

History

Chao Races and Badnik Bases

At the latest White Park Chao Racing Circuit, Clutch's Dark Chao competed in the qualification race in White Park Grand Chateau. During the race, they knocked Cheese into a water pool along the race track to slow them down. Despite this, Cheese managed to reach the finish line in time to qualify for the next round. As Clutch celebrated his victory, his Dark Chao shot Cheese a malicious glare.[1] Clutch's Dark Chao later competed in another race that would qualify them for the semi-finals. During the race, they tried to attack Cheese, but they managed to evade them. Clutch's Dark Chao subsequently fell off a cliff on the racing course and into the water below. Due to having failed Clutch, Clutch locked them in a cage in his suite, along with the other Chao who had failed him. However, the Dark Chao was later found by Cream and her friends, who decided to free all of Clutch's Chao.[3]

When Clutch unleashed the Badniks in his suite upon Cream and her friends, Cream asked Clutch's Dark Chao and the other Chao in the cage to help her friends defeat the Badniks. Clutch's Dark Chao agreed to this, and made a truce with Cheese. Once the Chao were released by Belle, they proceeded to help Cream's friends destroy the Badniks. Afterward, they participated in the evacuation of the chateau before an avalanche could hit it. Once that crisis had passed, Clutch's Dark Chao and their associates came to Tails' Workshop where they would have a picnic, finally free and happy. Meanwhile, Clutch's Dark Chao followed Sonic around and ended up being fed an apple from a distance by Shadow.[4]
