The DD Wrecker[note 1] is a character that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a robotic contraption that ambushed Sonic and his friends in the Green Hill Zone (twice).
Appearance
The DD Wrecker consists of two spheres bound together by a metallic chain with a rotatable joint. The two spheres are essentially miniature versions of the yellow-eyed Death Egg, except they have a red nose and a light blue mustache-based decoration.
History
Sonic Mania
In Sonic Mania, the DD Wrecker intercepted Sonic, Tails and Knuckles when the trio made their way through the Green Hill Zone. In the ensuing battle with the trio though, the DD Wrecker got destroyed.
Sonic Mania Plus
In Sonic Mania Plus, a rebuilt DD Wrecker returned to the Green Hill Zone where it attacked Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, MIghty and Ray on their way through the Zone. Like before though, the DD Wrecker got wrecked by the heroes.
Powers and abilities
The DD Wrecker's spheres are capable of independent levitation and can protrude spikes on their surfaces. When chained together, they act as pendulums for one another, thus turning themselves into swinging flails.
Battle
The DD Wrecker is the mini-boss of Green Hill Zone and the overall first boss of Sonic Mania and Sonic Mania Plus. It is fought at the end of Green Hill Zone Act 1.
In Sonic Mania, the DD Wrecker is fought with Sonic, Tails or Knuckles. In Sonic Mania Plus, it is fought with Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Mighty or Ray.
Boss guide
The boss battle is initiated when the two mini Death Eggs appear and link themselves together. As the battle begins, the first mini Death Egg moves slowly back and forth while the second one swings from side to side. The player has to hit the second one below while avoid the first one above. However, one of the mini Death Eggs will turn orange soon after the battle's start, making it untouchable in this state. This state can be bypassed with Invincible however. Over the course of the battle, the mini Death Eggs will switch between this state. Eventually, the DD Wrecker will move into the middle of the arena and swing its mini Death Eggs around quickly in a circular motion for a few seconds before repeating the previous pattern.
Once one of the mini Death Eggs has been hit three times, it will be destroyed, leaving only one left. On its own, the second mini Death Egg will rise up to either corner of the arena, turn orange and bounce across the ground three times to the other side. It will become vulnerable after the third bounce. Once this mini Death Egg has been hit three times, the player will have defeated the mini-boss. The player can then proceed to the Goal Plate and finish the Act.
