The Cyclone Charge takes the form of a whirlwind with brown feathers circling around it, both as an icon and on the tracks.
In gameplay, the Cyclone Charge can only be obtained at random from Item Boxes by Longclaw. As with most other Items, Metal Sonic can also use the Cyclone Charge if he uses the Steal Item to steal it from the aforementioned user.
Once obtained, the player can utilize the Cyclone Charge by pressing its icon on the bottom of the HUD. When used, the Cyclone Charge's whirlwind form will appear in front of the user's next rival if the user is behind said rival. If the user is leading the race however, it will appear on the lane directly behind them. If a rival character collides with the Cyclone Charge, they will take damage, causing them to lose Rings and slow down momentarily. If the user makes contact with the Cyclone Charge instead however, they will be granted a temporary speed boost. To avoid the Cyclone Charge, the playable character has to either step out of its lane or jump over it.
The Cyclone Charge can also be upgraded by leveling the user up to level 4, 10 and 16 respectively. For each upgrade, the damage inflicted with the Cyclone Charge and the speed boost it can grant will be increased.
