Cubot is a character that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. He is an emergency robot lackey created by Dr. Eggman, who was activated along Orbot to help hunt down Snively Robotnik. Once the mission was accomplished, Cubot was permanently instated as one of Eggman's personal attendants. He has a damaged vocal processor which causes him to randomly change between different accents.

Appearance[]

Cubot is a diminutive robot, but slightly taller than Orbot. He has a black square head with a flatten, yet wider yellow square cap on top and a larger black square on the bottom, the latter which resembles a jaw. His jaw can separate from his head to reveal a light blue cover resembling a mouth. He also has two gray-framed and pupil-less light blue eyes. His chest consists of a smaller yellow cube and he has yellow gloves for hands. His arms and back consist each of two thin gray bars that are joined by a black and yellow ball joint. His lower body is a black open cube with a gray inside and a ball joint connecting it to his back.

Activation and service to Eggman[]

Cubot and Orbot activated, from Sonic Universe #37.

Cubot was stored aboard the Death Egg Mark 2 with Orbot until Eggman activated them when Snively made his move against their creator. Once they hacked into the Eggnet, Snively was revealed be behind locking them out, which included a message to the entire Dark Egg Legion telling the Eggman Empire had fallen. Despite Cubot and Orbot's concerns over running on reserve power, they complied with Eggman's orders and beamed in the Grandmasters for an emergency meeting. Once they were assembled there, Cubot and Orbot served refreshments, much to Eggman's chagrin. With the meeting over, Cubot and Orbot joined Eggman and Mecha Sally aboard the Egg 'Stache Flyer and began their hunt for Snively while Orbot pointed out the tracker on Snively's Egg Jet had strangely not been disabled.[1] Cubot and Orbot were each stationed aboard one of the Egg Camels deployed alongside Eggman's in the invasion of Central City, but later recalled when Snively was detected leaving the area.[1][2]

After tracking Snively to the Dragon Kingdom, Cubot and Orbot joined Eggman on his tour of the Raiju Clan's Iron Fortress, and were thus present when their master ordered the Bride of the Conquering Storm and her clan to submit to Legionization. They then accompanied him to confront Snively, who have freed Regina Ferrum and gained possession of the mighty Iron Oni battle suit.[3] Cubot and Orbot were ordered to get Eggman a mech with which to combat the Iron Oni while Eggman stalled for time. They eventually produced the Egg Beater, and Eggman proved victorious. After appointing Regina as the new head of the Eurish Dark Egg Legion and gloating to an imprisoned Snively, Eggman made Cubot and Orbot his full-time lackeys.[4]

Orbot and Cubot later watched with Eggman as his Egg SWATs captured the residents of Furville for roboticization and Legionization for those still immune to the former thanks to the Bem. They then bore witness as Team Fighters, born from the breakup of the Knothole Freedom Fighters, came to the rescue of Furville's citizens.[5] Eggman quickly directed their course to Soumerca, where Cubot and Orbot were forced to cut him off during a transmission to Grandmasters Drago Wolf and Razorklaw of the Soumerca Dark Egg Legion due to dwindling supplies.[6] The Death Egg later made its way to New Mobotropolis, where Team Metal was deployed against the city's protector's Team Freedom. As Orbot reported Team Metal's destruction, Cubot noted that Mecha Sally was returning from a failed mission of her own. Reminded of the incomplete repair work on the Death Egg at the Temple of Shazamazon, Eggman reluctantly ordered Cubot and Orbot their departure.[7]

Fleeing across the Mobian Sea with Team Fighters in hot pursuit, where Eggman tried stalling Team Freedom with small robots until a more permanent solution could be found, Cubot found a Krudzu Hybrid Hydra sprig, which Eggman allowed to assimilate a Titan Metal Sonic he had not yet completed.[8] The Death Egg then stopped briefly over Albion before changing course to head for the Northern Tundra.[9] Around this time, Cubot and Orbot opened a channel for Eggman to address his worldwide forces. In the midst of his tirade, the transmission made a connection to another world-that of Earth 20XX, the landing site of Eggman's long lost blue Chaos Emerald. This transmission led to an alliance between Eggman and the like-minded scientist Dr. Wily of that world, and the two joined forces to launch the second Genesis Wave from their Skull Egg Zone.[10]

Along the way, Eggman discovered the existence of Shard the Metal Sonic, and had Cubot, Orbot, and Mecha Sally assist him in the reconstruction of his own robot to destroy this new threat. The upgrade included improved free will programming-which Orbot questioned the need for given the presence of Mecha Sally-and the installation of a Power Gem. Metal Sonic soon needed to be rebuilt again, something that Cubot and Orbot had made a bet on that Cubot lost. They then watched as Metal Sonic departed for the Interdimensional Gateway.[11] When the Death Egg was later invaded at the tundra by Team Fighters, Silver the Hedgehog, and the Arctic Freedom Fighters, Cubot and Orbot reported it and the ensuing damage to Eggman. In response, he had them prepare the gateway for his own use, and the second Genesis Wave soon washed across Mobius.[12]

Worlds Collide[]

Note: Due to the Genesis Wave, Orbot's history from this point was changed to be nearly identical to that of his game counterpart.

Cubot and Orbot would end up waiting upon the doctors as they observed a cleverly orchestrated battle between Sonic and Wily's own heroic nemesis, Mega Man.[10] They were thus present when Eggman became aware of Dr. Light, Mega Man's creator, who enabled Mega Man's return to his own world from Mobius.[13] The pair later played a game of cards with a Crabmeat and Wily's robot pet Reggae, during which Cubot took the instruction to "go fish" a little too literally.[14] Both were also in attendance as the doctors observed Copy Robot and the Genesis Unit attacking Mega Man, Sonic, Proto Man, Tails, and Rush, and when two of the doctors' Roboticized Masters arrived with the last of the Chaos Emeralds.[15]

The two continued to wait on Wily and Eggman as Sonic's party made its way deeper into the Skull Egg Zone.[16] Cubot and Orbot were soon after put to work creating a combined vehicle for the pair of doctors: the Egg-Wily Machine X. Later, when the doctors were working on it themselves, Cubot and Orbot appeared to report that all of the Roboticized Masters had been returned to normal and that Rouge the Bat had sabotaged the Wily Egg and was being pursued by Metal Sonic and Bass.[17] The two later found themselves at the mercy of Bass' pet Treble while discovering a transmission coming from the prison level of the brig, originating from the captive Dr. Light.[18] The two then bore witness to Wily's fury unleashed on Eggman after he returned from an attempt to kill Dr. Light, and were later narrowly missed by Mega Man's ally Duo as he crashed up through the levels of the Wily Egg to reach Mega Man and Sonic.[19] They later joined Eggman in his cockpit of the Egg-Wily Machine X when Knuckles the Echinda and Proto Man attacked the mech. After helping Eggman undo Wily's sabotage to his defenses while Wily undid Eggman's sabotage to his own, Cubot and Orbot watched as the final battle unfolded between the doctors and Super Sonic and Super Armor Mega Man. They were then carried along as Eggman launched a final, desperate attack, dangerously disrupting Sonic's efforts to restore their world to normal...[20]

Note: From this point, Cubot's history continues from his new life in the altered timeline.
