The Crawlshell is based on a hermit crab, though they use a Bumper instead of a shell. These Badniks have an orange body, two large front pincers with metallic gray tips, a yellow mouthplate, and eyestalks. In Pinball Carnival Zone Act 2, they don ghostly white sheets along with Splats, and lack pupils.
Overview[]
In Sonic Superstars, the Crawlshells appear as enemies in both acts of Pinball Carnival Zone, where they appear sporadically throughout the zone. Usually, the Crawlshells can be found walking back and fourth on the ground, or crawling up and down on walls. However, when the player comes close to a Crawlshell, the Badnik will immediately come to a full stop and turn around to use their Bumper shell to bounce the player away. Despite this, these Badniks can still be destroyed if the player attacks their exposed bodies, though this can be tricky as the Crawlshell can turn around again if the player does not attack them in time. Like most Badniks in the game, the Crawlshell will release their Animal and award the player 100 points upon destruction.
The Crawlshells also appear in the game's opening animation, where one alongside a Batbrain and a Buzz Bomber attempt to harm a Flicky, a Cucky, and a Pocky. Unfortunately for these Badniks, they would be swiftly destroyed by a speeding Sonic. Later on in the animation, a Crawlshell and a Buzz Bomber would be destroyed by Amy's Piko Piko Hammer in Pinball Carnival Zone.
Powers and Abilities[]
Crawlshells can crawl up and down vertical walls, as well as turn their backs to their foes so that their Bumper shell is facing them in order to bounce them away.
The Crawlshell shares a lot of similarities to a Badnik named Crawl from Sonic the Hedgehog 2, as both are hermit crab-based Badniks who use Bumpers as a way of defense.
The Crawlshell is one of the only Badniks in the series who can give the player points without needing to destroy them, as colliding with the Crawlshell's Bumper shell awards the player 10 points (similar to the normal Bumpers).
