The Crab Excavator is a character that appears in Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric. It is an giant Ancient robot stationed in The Pit which was used for Lyric the Last Ancient's digging operations there.

Appearance

The Crab Excavator is a massive red robot at the size of a building. Its design is reminiscent of both a crab and a spider, possessing a large round torso with layers of armor, gray clock mechanics in the cracks, several black pistons with red lines on top of its back, a fin down its spine, exhaust pipes on the sides, a semicircle for a head with only two red eyes for features, and four massive legs with hand-like feet which have three digits each. On its belly are three black drills with pink spikes which can spin and rotate together.

Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric

When the Crab Excavator broke down, it was left to be used for scrap metal by Lyric when he resumed his operations in The Pit. As it was being dismantled by the Destruction Troops, Sonic and Knuckles smashed the robots. Against their better judgement, Sonic and Knuckles reactivated the Crab Excavator to get past it, only for it to attack them. Regardless, the robot met its end at the heroes' hands, who used the hole it made to go underground.

Powers and abilities

The Crab Excavator possesses a powerful multi-drill on its belly which can quickly pierce rock and crunch up Destruction Troops instantly.

The Crab Excavator is the first miniboss of Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric and is fought with Sonic and Knuckles in The Pit on top of the cliff before the tunnel passage segment. To begin the battle, the player has to tear off the Crab Excavator's faceplate with the Enerbeam.

Boss guide

Throughout the battle, the Crab Excavator remains stationary while its drill rotates below it. The Crab Excavator is invulnerable to the player's attacks and touching its drill causes damage. While the Crab Excavator does not attack itself, Destruction Troops like the Shocker, Swordsman Trooper, Gunslinger Trooper and Blaster Trooper will swarm in the area in an endless stream.

To defeat the Crab Excavator, the player has to throw the smaller enemies into the Crab Excavator's drill with the Enerbeam, which will destroy the enemy and damage the boss. After throwing six enemies into it, the Crab Excavator will be beaten while dropping Rings from below it, and the player can proceed through the hole below it.
