Corkey[1] (レーザー[2] Rēzā?, lit. "Laser") is an enemy that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a mass-produced, cork-based Badnik created by Dr. Eggman.
Appearance[]
Corkeys are security Badniks based on corks with black and gray armor and a singular eye, although they also possess two hooks on their backsides, which they use to move around on the rails they are stationed on. Additionally, they also have a laser cannon below their bodies as well.
Overview[]
Corkeys make their only appearance in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and the lock-on game Sonic 3 & Knuckles, where they are exclusively encountered in the internal sections of Launch Base Zone. These Badniks can be found sliding along overhead tracks on the walls. However, some of them are also found remaining stationary at outdoor sections or on ceilings. When the playable character gets close to them from below, the Corkeys will position themselves above the playable character and fire a laser down at the ground for a couple of seconds. Despite their position though, the playable character can easily reach and destroy them with a Spin Jump, as they cannot move when firing. Like most Badniks, the Corkeys release an Animal and award the player 100 points upon their destruction.
Powers and abilities[]
Corkeys can fire deadly laser beams from below their bodies, which they use to damage intruders. Their hooks also allow them to slide on the rails, or stick to the ceiling. Their only weakness is that when they're firing, Corkeys are unable to move, leaving them vulnerable.
Trivia[]
- Due to a bug while playing as Knuckles in Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Knuckles will be unaffected by the Corkeys' laser while climbing.
- While the Corkeys are shown to have a singular eye in their artwork, their in-game sprite completely blacks out their eye socket.
