The Core Gear[1] is an object that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a special adaptor created by Dr. Starline for harnessing Power Core energy.
Description[]
Appearance[]
The Core Gear is a simple-looking device, being a golden medallion of some sort with three protrusions on the outer rim that form a triangle and a cavity on the top for inserting Power Cores into.
Abilities and traits[]
The Core Gear can be attached anywhere on the user's body. When worn, it allows the user to harness a Power Core's energy to empower their physical abilities.[1] However, since a user can already harness a Power Core's energy by simply touching its electromagnetic casing, this functionality is rather redundant.[2]
While in use, the Core Gear reads its user's bio-signatures and reacts seamlessly to their actions. In other words, acting like one would normally do will make the Core Gear distribute the Power Core energy instantly. When using the Core Gear to amplify a physical trait, the user will be surrounded by an aura matching that of the Power Core equipped to it: blue for speed Power Cores, yellow for flight Power Cores, and red for power Power Cores.[1] However, the Core Gear can only be used once, and if pushed too far, it will break apart.[1][3]
History[]
Bad Guys[]
When planning to get Power Cores to empower his (expendable) allies, Dr. Starline told them that they needed special adaptors to harness the Power Cores' energies (when they just needed to touch the Power Core's casing) in order to keep them in the dark and within his control.[2] As such, Starline created the Core Gears.[1]
When Starline's crew had to take over one of the Eggnet hubs, Starline supplied his allies with Core Gears equipped with Power Cores, which they used to dispose of the Badnik guards inside the hub.[1] Rough and Tumble later used their Core Gears as they chased down Starline after they and the doctor's allies turned on him. However, the skunk brothers were soon defeated by Starline and exhausted their Core Gear's Power Cores. Meanwhile, Mimic escaped the hub with his Core Gear. When the Eggnet hub was then about to fall on top of him, Zavok used his Core Gear to survive being buried by the collapsing building, although the effort destroyed his Core Gear.[3]
