Confuses your opponents by flipping their controls.

— Description, Sonic Forces: Speed Battle

The Confusion Mine, formerly known as the Illusion Mine, is an Item Box power-up that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a Trap Item used primarily to obstruct opposing rivals' path.

Description[]

The Confusion Mine takes the form of a round and gray mine that emits purple light and spew out gray smoke from the top, both as an icon and on the tracks.

Overview[]

In gameplay, the Confusion Mine can only be obtained at random from Item Boxes by Espio and Sir Galahad. As with most other Items, Metal Sonic and Metal Sonic Mach 3.0 can also use the Confusion Mine if they use the Steal Item to steal it from the aforementioned users.

Once obtained, the player can utilize the Confusion Mine by pressing its icon on the bottom of the HUD. When used, the Confusion Mine will drop its mine pads some distance ahead of the user's current location on all the lanes that the user is not currently on. If a character, including the user themselves, touches one of these mine pads, they will have their controls flipped, and will also have their Item slots on the bottom of the HUD disappear for a short time. However, the player can still use the power-ups stored in them by tapping on the place the slots are located. To avoid the Confusion Mine, the playable character must run in-between its mine pads.

The Confusion Mine can also be upgraded by leveling the user up to level 4, 10 and 16 respectively. For each upgrade, the effect of the Confusion Mine will last longer.

Trivia[]

  • The energy cubes left behind by the Confusion Mine back when it was known as the "Illusion Mine" were the same as those used by Infinite, possibly as a reference to the nature of his power.
